Question: What is vermiculite?


Answer: Vermiculite is the mineralogical name given to hydrated lamina mica type
materials, which on heating exfoliates or expands. The exfoliated mineral has many
applications in a variety of industries.

Question: Is vermiculite safe to use?


Answer: There are no known health hazards from vermiculite itself.

Question: Where can I find further Health and Safety information on vermiculite?
Answer: Detailed information relating to vermiculite in general is given in the following
reports:- 1. Vermiculite - Health, Safety and Environmental Aspects and 2. Vermiculite

Question: Is vermiculite covered by national or international standards?


Answer: Both ASTM and CEN standards exist or are in preparation and cover specific
applications of vermiculite.
