Past tenses

The party was just finishing when I decided to go home.


I took my brand-new leather jacket from the reception
and after that I went to my old but nevertheless loyal
Ford Fiesta. I had been in many discos, but this was the
first time as a normal person, I had been working with
the DEA for 7 years. Everything I have done for the
agency was undercover missions to prevent and block
the illegal drug market.
I had traveled for half an hour when I suddenly had a
stomach ache. It was such a strong pain that I had to
press the break immediately and stop for a while. I was
near a gloomy forest and the fresh natural air of the
pines helped me to recover.
When I was a rookie in the DEA , I always used to have
an emergency kit in my car, but after a while, since I
have gained some experience, I started to rely more on
my abilities. This was a silly mistake that now was
hurting me a lot.
When I came back on track ,my brain started to analyze
the events more consciously, maybe in a paranoid way,
about the strange causes of my illness.
During my career I had been working for 2 or maybe 3
different gangs, so my enemy list was pretty long.
I immediately deleted the Russian gang, in fact they still
use the classical umbrella trick, a KGB trademark.
Finally,I arrived home, and the solution of the problem,
that now was a real pain in the neck, came to me. I saw
my poor dinner, and I checked out the foods I used,
discovering that my ham was expired by 3 months.
