Jackson Pollock

Biography
Paul Jackson Pollock was born on January 28, 1912, in Cody, Wyoming.
Pollock died on August 11,1957 in a traffic collision in East Hampton,
New York, when he was only 44 years old. He was an American painter
who was a leading exponent of Abstract Expressionism, an art
movement characterized by the free-associative gestures in paint
sometimes referred to as “action painting.” Jackson used Synthetic
resin-based paints, hardened brushes, sticks, liquid and flowing kind of
paints as his main art medium. He was known for his famous drip
paintings and used the force of his whole body to paint which was
expressed on large canvases.

● Pollock was known as Jack the Dripper due to his unique style of
painting.
● Jackson’s art was influenced by his interest in ceramics and was
inspired by the work of his teacher, Thomas Hart, who discovered
that it was easier to sell decorated ceramics than paintings.
● Despite having numerous exhibitions abroad, Pollock never traveled
outside of the United States.
● While the family was living in Los Angeles, Pollock enrolled in the
Manual Art high school , where he discovered his passion for art.
● Jackson Pollock had a lifelong issue with alcohol abuse since when
he was 15 years-old
