Course Objectives: The course will introduce the students with the meaning, concept,
types, techniques, and characteristics of various types of war. It will also explain to the
students the causes, consequences as well as objectives of different types of war. Another
goal of the course is to understand war as an instrument of state policy.

Pre-requisites: General awareness about social sciences and world history.

Nuclear warfare: Beginning of nuclear era and effects of nuclear
explosion; Nuclear strategies of Deterrence, Massive Retaliation,
and Flexible Response.

their effect and military use (Covid-19 as case study)

Course Learning Outcomes: After completing this course the student will be able to:

 Define basic concepts related to war.


 Explain the meaning and concept of war.
 Identify various types & techniques of warfare.
 Distinguish between traditional & non-traditional warfare, tactics & strategy.
 Discover the relationship between strategic aspects of warfare and its tools.
 Examine the war as an instrument of policy, concept and theories of nuclear war
and relationship between industrialisation of war and arms trade.

Pedagogy for Course Delivery:

 Module wise e-content shall be available to the students.
 Essential readings before the conduct of class.
 Lecture, student presentation, group discussion and case studies shall be used as part of the
pedagogy.
 Guest lectures, group as well as computer mediated activities shall be used wherever
appropriate and applicable in different modules.
