PERSONAL PROFILE
Engr. Rod Kenneth Lubong is a registered mechanical engineer and a
graduate from Camarines Norte State College.
He was a design engineer in boiler and pressure vessel manufacturing
company. He is well-versed in international design standards such as
American Society of Mechanical Engineers - Boiler and Pressure Vessel
Code (ASME BPVC), American Petroleum Institute (API), Tubular Exchanger
Manufacturers Association (TEMA), and Conveyor Equipment
Manufactureres Asssociation (CEMA).
He is an advocate and practitioner of simulation-driven engineering using
finite element analysis through softwares such as Solidworks and ANSYS.
He also designs industrial equipment such as water heaters, steam
distillation plant, concrete hollow blocks making machine, LPG-fired heat
treatment furnace, among others.
July 2019 when he was sent to South Africa to supervise an installation
project. His extensive experience in design and installation engineering
honed his blueprint to project management.
Engr. Lubong has more than five years of project management experience
engrossed in power plant design, fabrication, construction, installation,
testing and commissioning.
He is currently taking a dual-masters degree of master in business
administration (MBA) and master in project management (MPM) at Escuela
de Negocious Europea de Barcelona (ENEB).
COMPETENCIES
Engr. Lubong obtained his
certification as Certified Associate in
Scrum Fundamentals. Scrum is an
agile project management
framework that helps teams
structure and manage their work
through a set of values, principles,
and practices.
Engr. Lubong puts his experience and
expertise in project management into
publications. His recent research paper
entitled "Managing a Framework of Project
Success for Fabrication and Installation
Stages of 18 TPH Biomass Boiler Project for
Coconut Processing Plant" won him the 2nd
Best Research Paper.
Engr. Lubong is a chartered member of Philippines
Society of Mechanical Engineers (PSME) Project
Management Technical Division (PMTD). He is also a
registered member of International Project
Management Association (IPMA) Philippines.
PROJECT NAME :
Design, Fabrication, Installation, Testing and Commissioning of Two (2)
Units 18 TPH Biomass Combi Boiler at Johannesburg, South Africa.
CLIENT :
Central Edible Oil (Pty) Ltd.
Boksburg, Gauteng, South Africa
PROJECT INITIATION AND PLANNING
SCOPE : Design, fabrication, installation, testing and commissioning of two
(2) units of 18 Tons per hour (TPH) biomass combi boiler.
TIMELINE : April 2018 - February 2020
BUDGET : 1,000,000 USD
QUALITY STANDARD : American Society of Mechanical Engineers Boiler
and Pressure Vessel Code (ASME-BPVC) Sec. I and VIII, 2017 Edition.
OBJECTIVE : The objective of the project is to construct a steam generating
plant for sunflower oil extraction, food processing and power generation.
PROJECT METHODOLOGY : Waterfall
The preliminary meeting with the client's project management team.
PROJECT EXECUTION
PRODUCT DESIGN
The design includes product research and development, and simulation
using finite element analysis to optimize product design and achieving
desirable efficiency of the overall product system.
The elevation layout of the steam boiler plant.
The design of boiler tubesheet underwent finite element
analysis using ANSYS to determine its reaction against load
constraints. Design reference is ASME Section I 2017 Ed.
Designing each part of the system
includes careful simulation for safety,
functionability and aesthetics.
FABRICATION AND QUALITY INSPECTION
The fabrication takes about more than a year. A total of 44 equipment were
fabricated which underwent rigorous quality control.
STEAM POWER PLANT
DELIVERY AND INSTALLATION
The installation of the equipment on site at Johannesburgy, South Africa
commenced on July 1, 2019 and was finished on Feb. 20, 2020. Four
personnel was sent to South Africa to supervise the installation, namely the
project manager, the senior field installation engineer, mechanical foreman
and the QC inspector.

management team doing shop inspection
prior shipment.
The installation supervision team.
(L-R): Mechanical foreman, QC
inspector and senior field
installation engineer.

equipment, economizer (left) and multi-
cyclone dust collector (above).
STEAM POWER PLANT
DELIVERY AND INSTALLATION
Every installation starts with dimension checking of civil works foundation. Our senior field
engineer doing the works.
One of the prevalent works during installation are lifting of heavylift equipment, welding,
and non-destructive examination (NDE).
STEAM POWER PLANT
DELIVERY AND INSTALLATION
Liftings and alignment checking are critical during installation as they require intensive
consideration of safety and efficacy.
STEAM POWER PLANT
PROJECT CONTROL AND MONITORING
COORDINATION MEETINGS
Meeting with third-party service provider of non-destructive examinations
(NDEs).
Meeting with the client, project management team and third-party ASME
Authorized Inspector.
Regular inspection of the
ASME Authorized Inspector
to ensure compliance with
the quality standard.
