A three-hour exam will be written at the end of the semester,
with the date to be announced by the Exams Office. To qualify
for the exam, your CA must be at least 40%. Your final mark
(FM) will be calculated from your CA and the Exam Mark (EM)

COURSE OUTLINE:

0. Revision on functions: What is a function, finding domain of piece-

wise function and of non-simple functions (i.e. combinations of polynomial,
trigonometric, exponential and logarithmic functions).
1. Limits and continuity of functions: Limit at the point, improper
limits, continuity.

2. Derivatives: Definition, rules of differentiation, chain rule, derivatives

of higher order, implicit differentiation, logarithmic differentiation, derivative of
the inverse function, derivatives of exponential and logarithmic functions.

3. Some applications of the exponential function: growth and decay,

derivatives of arc functions (inverse trigonometric functions), derivatives of
hyperbolic functions, derivatives of area functions (inverse hyperbolic functions).

4. Applications of the derivative: extrema of functions, concavity and

curve sketching, applications to optimization problems, related rates. Rolle’s
Theorem, the Mean Value Theorem, L’Hospital’s rule.

5. Integration: antiderivatives, integration by substitution.
