Bible Passage: Genesis 1:27-28

“Be Fruitful and Increase in Number…”

God created humankind in his image;
    in the image of God he created them;
    male and female he created them.
28 
God blessed them and God said to them: Be fertile and
multiply; fill the earth and subdue it. Have dominion over the
fish of the sea, the birds of the air, and all the living things that
crawl on the earth.

What does the Church teach us?

God made man and woman different from each other but
ultimately, for each other.
Sexuality is what makes man, a man, and woman, a woman.
In the Sacrament of Marriage, man and woman in mutual love
commit themselves to propagate life by having children.

The two-fold purpose of the Sacrament of Marriage:

 • UNITIVE
• PROCREATIVE
Through this, the family takes part in building God’s kingdom in
the Christian family of their own because it is in the Christian
family that the seed of faith is first sown with the parents as the
FIRST TEACHERS.
