TARGET NG DA NGAYONG 2023
January 3, 2023
The Department of Agriculture (DA) aims to lower the price of
P170 to P80 per kilogram in this year's market price. According to
DA Assistant Secretary and spokesperson Kristine Evangelista, they
expect the onion supply to be better in the country this year
especially and the harvest is near, and they have put more cold
storage facilities in strategic places to extend the shelf life of such
products. However, the DA also wants farmers to have price points
to stable farmgate prices throughout the year.

The DA also expects that by mid-January 2023 the price of the

onion will drop due to the start of the harvest season. He said they
also plan to meet with stakeholders again before deciding on the
onion price, but they want to say it's P200 per kilogram or less.

“January 15 is the start of the harvest. Of course, the peak

is March and April, but with the better supply, then we can
see prices going down,” an Evangelista.

On Thursday, the DA first set the P250 suggested retail

price (SRP) per kilogram of red onion in wet markets in the
National Capital Region (NCR), after its pressure rose to
P720 per kilogram. The SRP will last until the first week of
January 2023.
