Reflection Paper

Memories of Murder is directed by Bong Joon Hoo, this movie is based of a true event 'serial murder' in
South Korea which is the story of two detective named "Detective Park" and "Detective Seo" who is
trying to solve the unsolvable case, mostly the cases they encountered were two women who was been
raped and their hands and feet were wrapped up with rope naked and murdered everytime it rains.
Detective Park was overwhelmed as he never dealt this kind of case as the evidences were not properly
collected due to the non-existent of their forensic technology that year (1986). First and foremost,
during their investigation of Park and Seo, they meet an another detective, Seo , a detective from Seoul
who volunteer to help them to investigate the case. As the 3 continue their investigation, they saw a
local man from that town in the forest masturbate in a woman's undergarment, this detective thought
that was the behind all the crime that was happening in that town, they captured the man and arrested
him. On the other hand, Seo finds a survivor of the killer, one of the description from the survivor that
the killer's hand were insanely soft, Seo hurried when to the station and touch the local man's hand and
told that this isn't the culprit, angry Park told Seo that they lost their suspect, as they continued to
argue, Kwon ( female police office) alert the two detective that sad song on the radio were playing
(accordingly, the suspect used to request a sad song to the radio station every time it rains, and if rains,
that's the crime happened) and that night, another woman was been murdered, as the detective were
too late.

During their autopsy of the latest victim, they discover a peach in the woman's body, which one of the
clue that leads them to the factory. Park and Seo notes that the killer's hand were soft like the survivor
used to describe. Hyeon-gyu ( the prime suspect, who works on the factory with soft hand) were
uncomfortable when Seo presents the peach to him and think they found the killer, Angry Cho loss his
temper and beat Hyeon-gyu, which makes him ban to the interrogation room. The remaining detective,
Seo and Park listen to Baek ( the initial suspect, the one who follow one of the victim) confession. Seo
states that as he talks like Baek were someone did the crime but as the detective realize that Baek knew
the details of the murder because he witnessed it. On the other, they went to Baek's father's restaurant
and saw drunk Cho, as the people watching the news and mocking the police officers, he beats everyone
and Baek joins the riot, and swinging the wooden board to Cho's that cause him to pierce it in the rusty
nail, Park and Seo chase Baek and question him, but Baek gets frightened and escape into the path of an
incoming train which lead him to death.

On the other hand, Park discovered Cho's legs will get amputated due to the rusty nail were stuck of his
leg which caused tetanus, which Park feel guilty. Luckily, they discover semen on one of the victim's
body, sadly, due to Korea's lacking of DNA analysis technology, the semen sample will send to US to
confirm who is the suspect which is Hyeon-gyu. On the same day, a young girl were killed. At the crime
scene, Seo recognize the girl as one of the schoolgirl that he befriended during their investigation. Angry
Seo went to Hyeon-gyu and beats him til he was been interrupt by Park holding the result from the
America, the sample was not related to Hyeon-gyu's DNA. As the years goes by, the case was remained
unsolved and now Park was a father and businessman.
