ROCKS AND MINERALS

 ROCKS: Rocks are hard substance that make up the earth crust.
 MINERALS: Minerals are the substance that occur naturally and have definite chemical
composition.
 The most common elements found in minerals are: oxygen, silicon, aluminum, iron, calcium,
potassium and magnesium.
 Examples of minerals with metallic elements are gold and iron.
 Examples of minerals with non-metallic elements are sulfur and graphite.
 Quartz and feldspar are the most common minerals found in rocks.
TYPES OF ROCKS
IGNEOUS ROCK: Has two types INTRUSVE ROCK and EXTRUSIVE ROCK.
 INTRUSVE ROCK: Formed when Magma solidifies within inside the earth crust.
 TEXTURE: Rough
 GRAIN SIZE: Coarse-Grained
 EXTRUSIVE ROCK:
 TEXTURE: Smooth
 GRAIN SIZE: Fine-Grained

SEDIMENTARY ROCK: Has three types MECHANICALLY FORMED SEDIMENTARY ROCK,

CHEMICALLY FORMED SEDIMENTARY ROCK and ORGANICALLY FORMED SEDIMENTARY
ROCK.
 MECHANICALLY FORMED SEDIMENTARY ROCK:
