Title:How vital is it to conduct research in order to write a thesis?

Introduction

1. Why did you choose this title?

Why I choose this because many students today are afraid of conducting research because they believe
it is difficult and useless, but they are unaware that conducting research is critical in everyday life. The
goal of research is to find solutions to problems and to improve people’s lives. These are the some
reasons in conducting a research to write a thesis. It can be used to build knowledge. By reading a
research paper or conducting research, a reader can become knowledgeable about any topic he wishes
to investigate. It can be used as a learning tool, but in order to learn, it is necessary to read about
various research topics.Doing research also requires learning about specific topics.Used to understand
different issues, there are various issues that can be found on research papers. Doing research can
expose lies. Without research, there will be no advancement in technology. Doing research encourages
possibilities and understanding of various issues. Research is done to achieve a goal.

2. Establish the problem

Whether you are a current student or a doctoral graduate, conducting research is an integral part of
being a scholar-practitioner with the skills and credibility to effect social change. Fortunately, many of
the research challenges you will face from choosing a topic, to finding study participants, to staying sane
throughout the process. These are the some problems in conducting a research in order to write a thesis.

 Lack of standardization in the research process for distance education research.

 Incentivizing participation.
 Reliance on self-reported data.
 Research is team-based, but there is an absence of culture.
 Accessing individual level data.

3. Establish the need of society/community for a solution/resolution.

Lack of standardization in the research process for distance education research. There are logistical
issues surrounding the research process that need to be addressed. Oftentimes what seems like a
streamlined process on paper does not necessarily pan out as such in actual implementation.

Incentivizing participation. Many distance education researchers face the obstacle of finding enough
faculty and student participants to warrant a sound, evidence-based research project. Given the
economic climate influencing many institutional resources, monetary incentives are unlikely, or the
incentivization results in minimal participation. Thus, researchers face the difficulty of finding creative
strategies for encouraging participation with limited resources.

Reliance on self-reported data. As with any research endeavor involving opinions and behaviors of
humans, reliance on self-reported data means our data is ‘as good as the responses we ask for.’ The
accuracy of self-reported data, without the availability of data for cross-checking, is unknown, which is a
challenge in research conducted on student populations.

Research is team-based, but there is an absence of culture. That is, research within the area of distance
education often requires a group effort to be conducted effectively. Yet many institutions do not
encourage team-based projects, which is often evident in the lack of resources that would enable
disparate individuals to communicate and work together on one project.

Accessing individual level data. With sensitive and confidential information, institutions prefer to
provide aggregate level data. Though aggregate level can be a great resource to get a ‘broad stroke’
picture of the students at a particular institution, individual level data is often imperative for conducting
rigorous empirical research. Individual level data, meaning information and data at the level of the
student, is more difficult to access, yet necessary when examining certain populations and student
outcomes.

Theoretical/Conceptual Framework

Starting Your Research

Thomas W. Edgar, David O. Manz, in Research Methods for Cyber Security, 2017
Theoretical Research
Theoretical research is a logical exploration of a system of beliefs and assumptions. This type of
research includes theorizing or defining how a cyber system and its environment behave and
then exploring or playing out the implications of how it is defined. This research is very valuable
in understanding the bounds, edge cases, and emergent behaviors of a system. Often
theoretical research is decried as out of touch with reality, so-called “ivory tower” research.
Frankly, any research type or approach can run the risk of being irrelevant or out of touch if
done incorrectly. In some scientific fields, theoretical research is so far ahead of engineering
and technological progress that experiments to validate or refute them are hundreds of years
away. In cyber security research, theoretical work often overlaps with mathematics, logic, or
theory of computation; cryptography, of course, is a great example of this.
Theoretical frameworks stimulate research by providing direction and impetus to the research
enquiry. Adom et al. (2018) contend that, the absence of a clear theoretical framework guiding
a study on the other hand, blurs the appreciation of readers of the purpose of the study,
contribution of the study and the scholars that the researcher is in dialogue with (areas of
convergence and divergence).Theory should be the cornerstone of research, which aims at
apprising policy on how to tackle the informal sector taxation puzzle. The argument is premised
on the view that theories don’t only have the capability of expounding on how and why things
occur in a certain manner (Adom et al., 2018), but might also be contributory in envisioning
what is going to happen in the future given the present realities. Envisaging future eventualities
can provide a platform for designing intervention tools and even predicting outcomes that such
interventions might have in real life contexts. This arguably brings comparability, clarity and at
the same time limiting the challenges of context within empirical studies in the world (Adom et
al., 2018). Other researchers have concurred that this opens room for adaptability of such
studies to different contexts such that policy imputations can be derived accordingly.

Ravitch and Riggan (2017)

“An argument about why the topic one wishes to study matters, and why the means proposed
to study it are appropriate and rigorous.” (p. 5)
Ravitch and Riggan (2017) presented the most comprehensive understanding of Conceptual
framework. Indeed, they devoted an entire book to the topic. Their main point was that a
conceptual framework is an argument for the study and that argument has two parts. First, the
argument establishes the importance of and intended audience for the study. Second, the
argument demonstrates alignment among research questions, data collection, and data
analysis, as well as the use of rigorous procedures to conduct the study. They posited that the
conceptual framework both informs and describes the development of research questions,
design selection, data collection, data analysis, and presentation of findings.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

In conducting a research in order to write a thesis, researchers will definitely having a
problems. And the problems are Lack of standardization in the research process for distance
education research.Incentivizing participation.Reliance on self-reported data.Research is
team-based, but there is an absence of culture.Accessing individual level data.
Here are some contribution of research in order to write a thesis. It can be used to build
knowledge. By reading a research paper or conducting research, a reader can become
knowledgeable about any topic he wishes to investigate. It can be a learning tool, but in order
to learn, it is necessary to read about various research topics. Doing research entails learning
about specific topics. There are various issues that can be found on research papers that can
be used to understand them.By conducting research, you will be able to determine whether
or not the business will be successful. Many successful businesses invest in product research
and development. Many businesses benefit from research, particularly those involved in
consumer goods, manufacturing, healthcare, computer software, information and computer
technology, construction, robotics, and so on.To find out the truth, conduct research. Doing
research can expose lies.

These are the benefits of doing research to write a thesis in our society. Many people believe
that the majority of academic researches are useless to society. The majority of the time,
publications are created in order to advance one’s academic career. How can we make
academic research more useful to society? Research studies have a significant impact on the
development of countries. To include a new course in any educational system, teachers
should conduct empirical research studies to ensure that such a new course would be
beneficial. By conducting research on local issues to develop alternative solutions, creating
innovative multipurpose products at a lower cost, solving medical issues, and so on.

You’ll learn how to find, understand, and evaluate sources and information. The critical
thinking skills you learn through research are one of the biggest benefits of an excellent
education. You’ll use them all the time in your life as a professional and a citizen – and
they’re often useful in your personal life as well.
Research can be very useful to teachers. If a teacher does research on their own, such as on
the subject they teach or the art of teaching, it can help them become more informed and
better teachers. For general researchers, a lot of work has been done related to education;
researchers are often able to learn more about how people learn and what teaching methods
are the most effective. This research helps teachers hone their skills and improve their own
teaching.

Attention to every stage of a child’s development is urgent. Research now shows that the
care babies get has dramatic and long-term effects on how children develop and learn, on
how they cope with stress, and on how they react to the world around them. In fact, science
tells us that the right kind of experiences in their early years can actually help our children’s
brains to grow! And, that it can affect how they continue to learn later on in life.
Just as good food and exercise can help our bodies grow, good early experiences can help our
brains grow. Now there is even stronger evidence that there is a link between brain activity
and brain growth.
