Parish of Khiet Tam Tan Binh Diocese of Chi Hoa Ho Chi Minh City Archdiocese 28 Long Hung, Ward

d 7, Tan Binh District, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam May 30th, 2011 To whom it may concern, I hereby wish to recommend Mr Nguyen Minh Man for RMIT International Universitys scholarship. Being Head of Department of Youth in Khiet Tam Parish, of which he is a member, I have been working with Man for more than 4 years. The best quality Man possesses is his sheer responsibility and self-sacrifice. We have 2 Masses on weekdays and 4 on Sundays. Playing a directly supporting role to the priest in Masses, Man not only fulfills his own duty everyday but also willingly stands in for other members when they are unexpectedly busy, ill, or even going on holiday. Though his hard duty means getting up very early in the morning, I neither hear him complaint or neglect his duty. When there are unexpected extra Masses, while others just refuse to take responsibility, Man would volunteer to do the task. What surprised me most is his ability to balance between school work and volunteer work. Despite great academic pressure in his senior year at high school, studying very hard to earn a place in a top university, he still carried out his church duty unfailingly, with an constant, carefree smile on his face. There were also times when he was rushing along a five-kilometer route from school to church in just less than fifteen minutes to be on time for Masses. Another kind of contribution he makes to the church is his talent as an organist. After only a month of probation, he soon proved his indispensable role in accompanying the choir, especially in important Masses. He is now accompanying three out of four groups of choir in the church, which means considerably heavy workload since each group has a very different style. Technically, choirmasters have a very high opinion of Man. When he plays organ, it seems that he is offering all his energy and spirit, which helps to lift the spirit of the whole church community during Masses. As Man grows up, I see within him layers and layers of the potential to become a leader. As he possesses great communication skills, I can count on him when it comes to giving instructions and guidance to or helping younger members out. In my absence, everybody would listen to him. Furthermore, thanks to his communication skills, he is being trained to become a catechist, giving lessons to children catechumens, voluntarily. He would also be the one who attends diocesan celebrations and ceremonies on my behalf whenever I am busy. Man is the kind of person who is calm and quiet but smart and efficient. Whenever faced with an unexpected situation during Mass, he would not panic but make quick decisions on his own and solve the problems skillfully. I can say that I put my complete trust in him and that he will surely become my successor in the near future. I would appreciate your serious considerations to Man, and it would be a great pleasure for me to see Man develop all his potential in your prestigious school.
