What I Need to Know
There were questions as to whether it was, in fact “true art” since it made use
of electronic and mechanical devices, rather than the artist’s own hand to produce
the images and effects. Within a few years, however, there was a general acceptance
of digital art as an exciting and thought-provoking form of modern art. Today, people
are more involved in taking pictures – selfie, groupie, formal or informal, editing
pictures and uploading in different social media platforms. In fact, people are
generating income in a very creative presentation of their arts through digital ways.
This module focuses on:

What is It
Cameras come in many shapes and sizes, and each is used for a variety of
needs. There are, however, two main types of cameras available today for
the general consumer: the DSLR and the point and shoot.
Point and shoot cameras mean just that: point the camera at something
and shoot a picture. It automatically makes all the adjustments in lighting, focus,
zoom-in and zoom-out and even removal of ‘red-eye’ with the user.
DSLR stands for Digital Single Lens Reflex and refer to how the light enters
the camera. This provides film-less and instant review features on the point-and-
shoot type of digital camera.

Parts of a Camera Functions
1. Lens The lens is one of the
most vital parts of a
camera, where light
enters through the lens,
and this where the photo
process begins. This can
be either fixed
permanently or
interchangeable. Also
vary in focal length, its
aperture and other
details.
5
program mode, sports
mode or macro mode.
6
5. Main Control Dial The main control dial is a
multi-purpose dial that
allows you to perform
tasks such as adjusting
the value for shooting
settings and jumping
through playback
images.
7
7. Power Switch This switch is used to power on
or power off the camera. When
the power of the camera is left on
for a prolonged period, it
switches automatically to the
standby mode to conserve
power.
8
9. LCD Display The LCD screen is found on the
back of the body and can vary in
size. For digital compact
cameras, the LCD has typically
replaced the viewfinder c
completely. For digital single
lens reflex cameras, the LCD is
mainly for viewing photos after
shooting.

12. Play Button This button is used to play back
images you have captured.
Pressing the button once
displays the last image you
captured or showed on the LCD
monitor.
10
lock pin retracts when the button
is pressed enabling you to turn
the lens freely.
The best way to illustrate one of the most popular photography composition
techniques, the rule of thirds, is to put a nine-square grid over a photo. You would
break an image into thirds both horizontally and vertically, arriving at nine segments
total. If you place the most interesting element of your photos along one of those
12
lines, your photo will naturally be well-composed, based on the general rules of form
photography.
What’s More
2. Landscape/Travel Photography-
these are photos of places.
13
3. Still Life Photography- photos of stationary
objects.
14
5. Fashion Photography- these can be any variation of clothes, models and clothes,
models, and maybe posed or taken while subjects are in action.
I. MATCHY GAME. Match the parts of the camera with its functions. Write the
letter of your answers in a sheet of paper.
15
II. Identify the types of digital photography based on the pictures given. Write
your answers in your paper.
