The University established an in-campus engineering college, University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET).

take this opportunity to introduce to you University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET) an incampus Engineering Institute situated in the heart of Panjab University, Chandigarh.

Since its establishment, UIET has come a long way and is geared towards fast growth. This is possible because of highly competitive students selected through an all India entrance test, research oriented faculty, infrastructure that is most suited towards learning and a clean and pollution free environment that Chandigarh as a modern city has to offer. Students, by making full utilization of labs, library and computer facilities, broadband internet connection available for long hours, benefit themselves and develop their professional skills benefit themselves and develop their professional skills. Apart from focusing on academics the institute also lays emphasis on the soft skills of the students to prepare them for global competition. Personality development comes through extra curricular activities. Networking with leading organizations and institutes has benefitted the institute hugely in orienting students to R&D activities as per requirements of industry. Corporate sector has been very forthcoming in assessing UIET students. As a result majority of our students are selected through campus placements. Programmes Offered

he institute, as is ranked 31st best Engineering College of India, is a center where innovation meets creativity. The brochure gives an insight into the institute in all respects, as to why and how UIET has grown into a premier institute for technical education in a very short span since its inception. Bachelors of Engineering: An eight-semester programme with students rigorously trained to be a valuable resource in the i n d u s t r y. S t u d e n t s w i t h exceedingly good AIEEE ranks take up admission in UIET. The curriculum is well structured, and includes industrial internships to give students an insight into the professional engineering.

Bachelors of Engineering and Master of Business Administration (5 years integrated programme): It is a ten semester programme rendering B.E. in a basic field of engineering with MBA in a chosen specialization. A degree designed for students to give them the ability to develop their career to its fullest potential, at an accelerated pace. Aside from the engineering experience, the MBA degree supplies valued propositions as Skills and Brand. Masters of Engineering: This is a four semester programme, where graduate students from various engineering fields are admitted for a further specialization. The students experience a thorough professional training, powered by research work to develop a strong conceptual base.

About The Departments

Computer Science: The Department of Computer Science & Engineering at UIET, Panjab University, is a center of excellence with remarkable education standards, and provides holistic training to the students. Students at UIET get a unique experience of University life, access to state of the art lab facilities and infrastructure and the latest research tools. As a part of the curriculum, the students have to undergo trainings from time to time, which provides industry-academic interface to prepare them to face the challenges of the software sector. Information Technology: A Bachelor of Engineering in Information Technology degree program started in 2004. This degree is primarily based on computer subjects such as software Engineering, databases Management, and networking This course introduces students to the steps necessary to analyze a problem in information technology, identify and define the computing requirements appropriate to its solution, with a focus on how to design, implement, and evaluate a computer-based system, process, component, or program to meet desired needs. Students learn to analyze the local and global impact of computing on individuals, organizations, and society. Mechanical: Mechanical engineering is one of the oldest and broadest engineering disciplines . The department has a competent and dedicated faculty which encourages the students to take up challenging projects. It helps the students to establish and expand their principles of physics and material science for analysis, design, m a n u f a c t u r i n g, a n d m a i n t e n a n c e o f mechanical systems, production and usage of heat and mechanical power for the design, production, and operation of machines and tools. Electronics & Communications: Department of electronics and communication is one of the most active and sought after departments of UIET. Keeping in line with fast changing technology, the department has a well-designed, constantly reviewed syllabus to incorporate all advancements in existing and emerging technologies. The state-of-the-art laboratories complement the high standards set by the competitive syllabus and nurture the inclination of the students towards research and development, besides giving them the necessary and sufficient backing of practical knowledge that they need. Electrical & Electronics: The program in Electrical & Electronics is a multidisciplinary course that aims to train engineers in the field of Core Electrical Engineering along with Electronics Engineering with Computer Sciences. The focus of this department is on Power & Energy, Computer aided optimization and research & development in the field of sustainable sources of energy. The curriculum covers all the subjects ranging from electrical circuits & machines to neural networks and Database Management systems. Biotechnology: The emerging field of Biotechnology needs competitive manpower to carry out research and development for cutting edge technologies. UIET has taken upon itself the onerous task of venturing into the area of Biotechnology and meet the challenge it offers. The Biotechnology Department has all the latest equipments required by the students and a very experienced and well qualified faculty.

Academics

he academic framework at UIET, Panjab university is designed to accommodate the industry needs and provide flexibility to explore the real world by providing excellent theoretical as well as practical knowledge. The curriculum is formulated keeping in mind the frequent technological advancements and the competent working environment. Some of the salient features of the course are: Departmental Electives The subjects are well chosen and the curriculum is very prudently laid out. The subjects are a unique blend of core engineering, economics, English studies, cyber laws, etc, to help broaden the perspective of students. Conferences, presentations, seminars and guest lectures held regularly allow the students to strengthen their concepts and skills. Summer Internships Since practical training is equal in importance to the theoretical foundation, the course curriculum is so designed that the students get exposed to the live engineering environment. The students have to undergo minor(46 weeks) twice in their curriculum and major(6 months) vocational trainings in organizations.

Minor and Major Projects The schema and syllabi focus on engineering the things out rather than plain learning and implementation. These projects provide a vent to the innovation and a conformation to the concepts learned. The minor and the major projects are a compulsion in the academics. Laboratory and Workshop Training The curriculum gives ample importance to the practical education through its well equipped labs and faculty which provides hands-on training to enhance the students' power to think and act. The wellequipped workshopsprovide the students with a live working environment to enhance their industrial procedures and skills.

Research & Development

IET has been actively involved in research and development projects many of which have been sponsored by national organizations and industries. SPONSERED RESEARCH: Various departments of central government and some of the major industries have been sponsoring specific programs of research by funding projects undertaken by industry. Some of these are Development of Software Protection Tool for Department of Information Technology (DIT), Govt. of India, Modeling and Simulation of Nanoscale MOSFETs at Room Temperature (RT) and of Classical MOSFETs at Liquid Nitrogen Temperature (LNT) by Department of Information Technology (DIT), Govt. of India, Polycystin-1 and Nuclear Factor of Activated T Antigen (NFAT) interacting partners in Reno-Cardiac functioning in Autosomal Dominant Polycystice Kidney Disease by Department of Biotechnology (DBT) New Delhi, Govt. of India and Low Power DSP LabforAll India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Govt. of India. A number of industry

funded programs are also funded. LG Electronics have funded research for Department of mechanical engineering. Bharti group of industries has set up a Bharti Chair in Telecommunication & IT to boost research in Telecommunication. UIET has many more MOUs and interactions with the industry and academia like IBM, Sun Microsystem, IMTECH etc. STUDENT PROJECTS: All BE and ME students undergo a project under the guidance of a faculty members for completion of their degrees. Some of the prominent projects are BAJA SAE ASIA 2010: which aims to design a rugged off road vehicle capable of negotiating the rough tracks without damage. The vehicle has been ergonomically designed for driver comfort. Others include RESULT AND ATTENDANCE RETRIEVAL USING SMS AND IVRS ,RADIUS Server Implementation Based on AAA, VoIP Telephony and many others.

Campus & Infrastructure

CAMPUS INFRASTRUCTURE: 1.Wi-fi campus: The whole campus has the access to internet through Wi-fi. This enables the students and faculty to work in an efficient manner. 2. Canteen / cafeteria: a wide range of delicacies are available at reasonable rates. The quality of food has never been compromised under any circumstances. 3. State of art infrastrusture of labs for different branches: The labs have been equipped with the latest equipment and software to enable the students to gain intensive insight into the practical aspects and application of engineering by providing them a means to implement the fundamentals and concepts of classroom learning in practical. 4. Hostel facilities: The University houses around 5000 students in its well planned hostels. There is an exclusive hostel for UIET students. The hostels provide hygienic food to the students, under a diet plan designed by a professional dietician. The hostels also have facilities like laundry service, a tuck shop and a stationary shop inside the hostel premises. The hostels are very secure and very well maintained, with a 24 hour wi-fi service available to the students.

Campus & Infrastructure

5. Facilities provided to UIET students on PU campus: Panjab University has one of the most sprawling and well laid out campuses in the country. The campus is spacious and has all the modern facilities. These include separate hostels for girls and boys, shopping complex and student centre, medical centre and banks and ATM's. The campus also has a dedicated Post office. Sports facilities include swimming pool, tennis courts, sports complex, play grounds, gymnasium hall, etc. The campus also houses one of the biggest Libraries in the country .The University is located in sector 14 and Sector 25 in Chandigarh and there are distinct advantages of being located in the heart of country's most planned city. The 500 seat Air conditioned Auditorium ensures that seminars are held in an ambient atmosphere. UIET has very good hostel facilities and there are exclusive hostels only for UIET students. Round the clock internet facilities are provided to the students for research work and information retrieval.

Extra Curricular activities

Owing to the importance of the over-all development of the students, UIET takes special care in providing the best possible opportunities for a student to excel and develop in all spheres of life. Thus, the students of UIET excel not just in the sphere of Academics, but also leave a mark in extra-curricular activities. UIET has been able to achieve all this by establishing and operating a number of welldefined committees and national level student clubs/organizations.The students are dynamic, participating in all the major national level competitions,and bringing laurels to the college. The Student committees of UIET, known as the UTECHNOS Committees, cover all aspects of the development of the students. These committees include: 1. Academic and Literary Committee a. Its events range from quizzes, workshops, game shows, fashion show (Glitterati), dance show (Groovz), Rock Night, etc. Various Dance workshops including salsa, western, contemporary, Hip Hop are organized from time to time. A number of conferences, events, competitions along with various workshops and lectures by eminent guests are organized every year. Major events of the recent past include: 1. Placement Procedure

Placements at UIET are organized and conducted by The Training and Placement Committee with assistance from students and faculty. Arrangements for pre-placement talks and interaction sessions could be made upon request. The recruitment process is as follows: 1. The company is encouraged to conduct pre-placement talks and any short-listing exams before the campus interview sessions would commence. Slots for such activities would be, however, allotted based on mutual convenience and availability. 2. Companies can register themselves on the online portal (www.tnpuiet.com) to create their accounts. 3. Companies can post their job notification through their account on the online portal and they can also access the profile of students from the online portal. 4. The Placement cell allots the dates for the campus interviews. 5. By the end of the scheduled day of campus interview, the company is required to declare a list of final selected students on the same day. 6. At the end of selection process, the company is required to send offer letters to the Placement Officer who will then hand them over to the concerned students.
