The National Solar Mission is an initiative by the Indian government aimed at

promoting the use of solar energy in the country. The objective of the National
Solar Mission is to establish India as a global leader in solar energy, by creating
the policy conditions for its diffusion across the country as quickly as possible.

Timeline and Milestones Acheived:

The mission was launched in January 2010 with the target of 20GW by 2022.
The Target was later increased to 100GW in 2015.
Original Target of 20GW was surpassed in 2018.
In 2022 the Solar Capicity of India was at 62 GW.
