Computer Organization and Assembly Language

This self-assessment test is intended as a prerequisite assessment to determine if you

have the background knowledge. This course assumes that you have a solid
understanding of the material presented in DLD or an equivalent course. Read the
instructions carefully at the end before starting this assignment.

Here’s what the assignment involves:

Problem 1: Find a current ad for a laptop computer and answer the following questions: (6
points) [CLO covered: CLO 1]

a. Circle those performance metrics that correspond to speed values.

b. Underline those performance metrics that correspond to memory values.

Problem 2: Assembly language is a human readable form of programs have discussed in

class. Explain in 5-10 lines what machine language is and identify two key constraints for
machine language that don’t apply to assembly language: (4 points) [CLO covered: CLO 1]

Submission and Grading:

• Submissions should reflect the concepts and practices we cover in class.

• Assignment should be submitted individually in hard on or before the said date.
Incomplete/plagiarized/late assignment will be plenty’d as follow:

Incomplete: Depends
Plagiarized or copy: 0 marks for each part (from classmate)
Late: Late submissions will be penalized by 20% per week late. (i.e., from one second late to 1
week late: 20% penalty, from one week plus one second late to 2 weeks late: 40% penalty, etc.).

• The front page followed by every student is given at bottom of this description. The page will
be attached as a title page, the beginning of the assignment in hard.
