Discussion Questions – Topic 5

1. There are many factors used to determine pay in the organizations. Assume
you are Union President in ABC organization. What factors would you use
and why? (Students are required to carry out research for this question)

2. There are various comparative criteria used to determine pay equity.


Analyze each of these factors and provide two justifications on fairness of
the set criteria.

3. Students are required to form groups. One group will represent the
management and the other group will be the unions representative. You are
required to engage in the pay bargaining and convince the other party for
pay increase (unions) justification for not increasing the pay (management).

4. As the HRM students do you think the government has been reasonable to
allow organizations flexibility (work arrangements, numerical flexibility,
time flexibility, functional flexibility). Why?
