BARANGAY HISTORY OF GREGORIO PIMENTEL

In the old days Barangay Pimentel was called Dumatta. The

name Dumatta is called by the Ilongot people because they

were the first people to live here. In 1957 there were two

hunters who went here. Their names are Juan Arellano and

Culio Rafael. They hunt here because there are so many

wild boars, deer, wild chickens and very large monkeys. They used to catch a lot of people. Until

the Ilongots saw them and befriended them. After a few months of hunting and making friends,

they started farming here. It is dense and has many large trees, yantok and many other things that

can be earned. There are no roads, no cars, there are many leeches (billed) that when you walk

on the road or in the forest they will cling to you or will suddenly jump on you. It was very

difficult and scary to live here but they endured until the harvest. Harvesting products without

loading even with a buffalo there is no way. They carry the rice harvests to take home to the

family that lives in Diadi, Nueva Vizcaya. And the products that are left in the field when they

are returned will catch up with the many monkeys that eat them. There are also huge pythons that

you thought were trees blocking the road.

After a year they brought their families to this place and they settled. Concession or loggers

entered this area under the leadership of Mr. Paredes. Wards 6 and 7 are now named "Buyok"

which means "Palayan Away" then.

Over the years, due to the gradual increase in people in this area, Mang Marcelino Bragas, the

first Teniente del Bario, was appointed as a leader. During his leadership there was a problem

with the people because Mr. Paredes claimed that this place was his. So the people got angry and
they went to Teniente del Bario. This problem was discussed and Mr. Paredes did not succeed in

his desire.

Time passed, Mr. Mariano Pimentel, who was the mayor of Diffun at the time, visited. He called

a meeting and all the people who lived there attended. Here the name change of this place was

discussed. Dumatta was changed to Gregorio Pimentel, this name derived from his father's name,

in memory of the deceased. Since then, the people here have been encouraged and have hope that

one-day life will improve and improve.

Now with the help of dear Congressman Junie E. Cua, the place has improved. The roads are

concrete. There is also electricity which has given more light to the homes. There are huge

houses and there are electric appliances.

Populations, Religion, Topography, and way of life

The total size of Brgy. Pimentel is 3,110 hectares. Its population has 441 males and 412 females,

with a total of 853 people.

Various religions such as Roman Catholic, Protestant, Spiritist and Jerusalem can also be seen

here. Which, here they express or show their faith in God who is powerful.

Brgy. Pimentel is surrounded by five barangays. To the north is Brgy. Don Faustino Pagaduan.

To the south is Brgy. Camp. To the east is Brgy. Gabriela and Brgy. get dirty And the one in the

west is Brgy. Beretbet of Nueva Vizcaya. The area is mountainous and has a temperate climate.

Most or almost all the people here live by farming. And some are teachers and businessmen.

At that time, the transportation they used were carts, carts (these are wooden vehicles) and

weapons. The weapon was also the first vehicle to enter or reach our area. This was also used by
Hon. Junie E. Cua, Provincial Congressman when he first visited our area. But now because of

the good roads there are jeeps, motorbikes, tricycles and vans. Our road is now in good shape

with the help from the kind, thoughtful and helpful officials from our Congressman to our

barangay chief.

Those who became barangay captains

1975-1982 The Teniente del Bario was Mr. Marcelino Bragas who ruled for seven years(7). He

became a leader simply by being taught by the people who lived here.

1982-1984 Mr. Marcelino Bragas passed the office to Mrs. Estelita Romano because he was tired

and did not want it anymore.

1984- 1993 Mr. Ruben Pakiwon was appointed as Captain. He has the highest vote by raising the

right hand of the people. He was in office for nine years (9).

1993-1996 Mr. Alejandre Bragas was the first to serve for three years as captain through

election. He is the son of Marcelino Bragas.

1996-2002 Mr. Jhonny Ngay-yao was elected captain and served for six years.

2002- 2004 Mr. Alejandre Bragas returned for the second time as captain. He served again for

three years.

2004- 2010 For the second time, Mr. Jhonny Ngay-yao returned as captain. Because of his good

policies and management in the barangay, he was in office for six years.

2010- 2013 Mr. Alejandre Bragas returned for the third time and he served again for three years.
2013 to the present Mr. Jhonny Ngay - there it is again.

Structures

We also have various structures located here such as school, church, Brgy. Office, Health Center

and Gymnasium. The standard of living here is still low. As well as the education system.

The history of the school

Due to the hard work of Teniente Marcelino Bragas, a classroom was built on April 28, 1977 and

it was made of cogon, bamboo, wood and other materials found in this area. After a few months

they made another classroom that was similar to the one they had made before. And when the

second classroom was finished, the people here asked for a teacher and it was Mr. Barientos who

became a "multigrade teacher" from grade I to grade 2.

In 1984, the primary school became a complete elementary school and was named Mabanga

Paaralang ng Pimentel or “Pimentel Elementary School”. There are also four classrooms.

In the year 1993 Mrs. Pacita Ambulan was also assigned to teach at this school. Because of the

good management and also the leadership of Hon. Alejandres Braga of this school continues to

develop.

Due to the sufficient number of students. And providing "Basic Quality Education to children to

become productive citizens. Today this school has six teachers led by Madam Evelyn d. The

Teacher in Charge is overpowered.

siege

In 1975 Gregorio Pimentel had three sites. These are Sitio Muntayading, Sitio Guinagat and Sitio

Ammogaoen. Sitio Muntayading is located in the western part of the barangay with a population

of 82 people. Sitio Guinagat and Sitio Ammogaoen have been separated from barangay Pimentel

due to its distance from the center of the barangay, so Sitio Ammogaoen has been included in

Barangay Dumanisi and Sitio Guinagat has been included in barangay Campamento. This

happened in the year 1982. So Barangay Pimentel was left alone.

Significant Events

In 1972 the people here in Pimentel evacuated to Diadi because of the Marshall Law of President

Ferdinand E. Marcos. They are afraid of the military that circulates in different areas.

In 1994, there were many NPAs in our barangay and their training ground was in the barangay

hall of this barangay. So if they hear of thieves or bad people, they take it and throw it

somewhere else. So when Congressman Junie E. Cua first visited here, Mr. Ruben Pakiwon who

was the captain at the time talked to the NPA friends so that they would not harm the visitors

who came.
