HISTORY OF BARANGAY MALUANLUAN

The name “Maluanluan” according to the village ancestors was adapted

from the word “maalwan-alwan” which means comfortable, abundant and
higher than the neighboring villages. It is because the people living here have
a comfortable and abundant life since the place is wide and favorable to
plantation, like planting rice, coconut, calamansi, and other plants that are
consider as their primary source of living.
The village of Maluanluan is sitting on a rich plain that fits abundant
gardening and plantation. It is divided over the main road of Pola, separated
by rivers and streams in the neighboring villages which are also the boundaries
of the area. The boundary in the East is Barangay Malibago, meanwhile in the
North is Barangay Casiligan, in the North-west is Barangay Calubasanhon and
Matulatula, in the West is Barangay Matungao (Socorro), and in the South is
Barangay Bagsok which is a part of Socorro.
Farming is the primary source of income of the people in Maluanluan.
For instance, rice planting, coconut planting, corn planting, banana planting,
and other fruiting trees.
Villa Roses is one of the places that have a wide paddy field and yearly
have an abundant harvest because the said place has a proper irrigation and
fertile arable land. Although they are experiencing great flooding during the
storm due to the overflow of the neighboring Casiligan river, the people here
still live peacefully and joyfully because they promote unity and good
relationship with each other.
The field in Yu Yek with extensive rice, corn, calamansi, and coconut
field are also a great help to the residents especially because the landowner
allows the farmers to use his modern gardening equipment.
Others care for animals such as pig, cow, carabao, goat, chicken and
others to serve as their additional income. They are also planting different
vegetables in their backyards. At present, Maluanluan has 64,602.50
agricultural land in which the barangay get the 10% share of it.
Year 1967 when Socorro had been separated to Pola and became
another town. Socorro wanted to claim Maluanluan as one of their village but
in 1968, based on the agreement of the heads of the two towns, Maluanluan
was still under the town of Pola and became the boundary separating the two
said towns.
The land where the Maluanluan Elementary School is located was
granted by Mr. Quintin Pineda.
In ancient times, the officers were selected through the raising of hands
of the people who attended the meeting. And those who received the most
number of votes became the Tiniente del Baryo in which Mr. Quintin Pineda
became the chosen one followed by Mr. Elpidio Mendoza. According to the

Pineda tribe, who were the first village residents, as of they remembered,
Dioniscio Evangelista was the first officer of the barangay. He was followed by
Pedro Dris, Nano Rubia, and Pedro Dris again.
In 1968, there was an election and Mr. Renato Soleto won as Barangay
Captain. During this period, the six sitios of the barangay Maluanluan were
created.
These six sitios are as follows:
1. Sitio Malaya- this place was given such a name because it is a place where
people freely come and go as it is located at the boundary between
barangay Maluanluan and the neighbor town.
2. Sitio Maligaya- once upon a time, this place was usually packed with
canteens selling “tuba”. Many people were visiting this place and to have
the sip of this kind of drinks. Every time people were gathered, the place
were filled with joy and happiness.
3. Sitio Masigla- this Sitio covers the Maluanluan Elementary School. It was
named as “Maligaya” because the students and teachers at the school
are productive and are diligent when it comes to studying.
4. Sitio Mayumi- this was named “Mayumi” because during this period, the
council woman of the barangay, Zenaida De Ocampo lived at this place.
She was known as modest and a lady full of elegance.
5. Sitio Maunlad- this sitio is mostly known today as “Crossing”. This was
called maunlad because during this period, the sitio has bunch of sari-
sari stores, thus the success and progress of the place can be seen
easily.
6. Sitio Masikap- this was named as masikap as this place is full of rice fields.
You can also see the people in the community who are diligent and
hard- working.

In 1972, before the Martial Law was dismantled, Honorable Renato

Soleto was elected again as the Captain. Because the Martial Law was
abolished, the tenure of all the barangay officials were extended for a long
time. Among all the barangays of the town, Maluanluan has become the first
to have the Barangay High School in 1968. However, it was unfortunately
closed in 1975 due to the lack of funding.
Honorable Renato Soleto was recorded to be longest Barangay Captain
of Maluanluan. When he died on 1990, he was replaced by Mr. Edgardo De
Chavez who served until 1994.
In the year of 1994, the new election was held and Honorable Wilson A.
Soleto was designated. He lasted and served for three consecutive terms.
During his term, Sitio Mapalad was also born as the seventh sitio of
Maluanluan. Additionally, a Barangay Hall was constructed as donated by Mr.
Renato Levite, a congressman. This hall served as a place for meeting of the
officials led by Mr. Gabino Dris Jr. who served as Barangay Captain when
Honorable Wilson Soleto was elected as Town Councilor.
In 2007, the new Barangay Captain, Rolando M. Claveria started to
govern Maluanluan. On the election on October 10, 2010, he was designated
again. He served as Barangay Captain for three consecutive terms. In 2014,
he included Munting Bakas as under the Sitio Mapalad of Maluanluan.
