HISTORY

Barangay Salvacion is located 10.53 km away from the town of Magallanes, Sorsogon. It is
bounded from the north, Barangay Caditaan, south, Barangay Ginangra, east, Barangay Siuton, north east,
Barangay Busay and west, Barangay Pawik. Decades ago, this barangay is called Barangay Visita because
most people living here are visitors only.

Barangay Salvacion started as settlement called Gibal-ong, the site where the first mass in the
island of Luzon, also known as the first Christian settlement. It was called by the pre-Hispanic settlers as Gibal-
ong. This was the first residence of the dwellers however they always experience flash flood so the leaders
decided to migrate to an elevated place. This new established community is now known as Brgy. Salvacion.
The first settlement, Gibal-ong became the sitio of Barangay Salvacion. Gibalon is originally a part of
Barangay Salvacion. At present, Gibal-ong is called Gibalon and a sitio of Barangay Siuton. During the
administration of Barangay Chairman Fortunato “Tatong Cornelio and his council after a consultation with
the Barangay Officials of Siuton and the Local Government Unit of Municipality of Magallanes they decided
to give up Gibalon through an Ordinance and agreed to have Gibalon River as boundary up to now.

The early settlers were known for their ardent Faith and a deep sense of Religion. And a
concrete manifestation of such faith was when an expert sculptor went to the Barangay. He carved two images
of Nuestra Señora de Salvacion. The first image was brought for worship in Barangay Salvacion, Magallanes
and the other one is in Salvacion, Masbate. The image of Our Lady of Salvation came out as the eventual
patroness of the Barangay. And so it came to pass that the barangay was eventually named SALVACION, a
name after her patroness. The recent image of the patron was donated by Mr. Malonzo, the former principal
of Salvacion Community School.
Long ago it was commonly called a barrio headed by a Teniente del barrio. The first head man
of the village was the late Mr. Juan Benosa. The barangay captains and councilmen were elected by the people.
Amando Laudit was the Teniente del barrio during the Spanish time. And followed by his nephew Fortunato
Cornelio that reigned for 10 years in the time of Former President Marcos.

Presently Barangay Salvacion is composed of seven Puroks and seven Sitios, this Sitios are as
follows, Centro, Envarcadero, Huyan - huyan, Dalipay, San Isidro, Pampang and Bayawas. Only four of the
seven Sitios have their fiesta celebration and they are Centro, San Isidro, Pampang and Bayawas.

The Barangay Site measured approximately 1.9988 hectares. On June 1999 the said land was
donated by Ms. Nadine L. Arambulo, sister of former Mayor Abelardo L. Arambulo and on August 2010 it is
officially awarded/turnover to the Barangay. Presently it has more or less 250 households and a total estimated
population of 2,350. Soil type is 70% loam, terrain type, 60% silky, 30% mainland and 10% coastal.

Copra, rice farming, livestock raising and fishing are the major source of income, almost 60%
depends on it as a means of living the remaining depends on the remittance of one or two members of the
family who works in Manila and other cities to support their family. The Barangay had already an electricity,
and source of water powered by electric pump/machine. It has a Day Care Center, Health Center, Material
