• Tata Group has chosen State Bank of India, Bank of Baroda and
HDFC Bank as preferred bankers for Air India. Recently Tata Group
has taken over Air India from the government. Air India is the largest
international carrier out of India with an 18.6% market share. Tata
Sons have availed of a Rs 10,000-crore loan from SBI and a Rs
5,000-crore loan from BoB.
• Tata Group company, Tata Steel Long Products Ltd’s (TSLP) has
acquired Odisha-based Neelachal Ispat Nigam Ltd (NINL) for Rs
12,100 crore. Neelachal Ispat Nigam Ltd (NINL) is a steel plant
located in Kalinganagar in Odisha and was shut in March 2020 due
to continued losses.

• The government of India officially handed over India’s flag carrier, Air
India to the Tata Group on January 27, 2022, almost 69 years after
acquiring the conglomerate. The total value of the deal is Rs 18,000
crore (US$2.4 billion).
• The board of Tata Sons Pvt Ltd has approved the re-appointment of
N Chandrasekaran as the Executive Chairman of the company for
the second five years term. Chandrasekaran’s current tenure as the
chairman was to expire at the end of February 2022.

Madagascar Enters Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure
• Madagascar has become the 30th country to join the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure which was launched by
India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the United Nations Climate Action Summit in September 2019.
• CDRI is a partnership of national governments, UN agencies and programmes, multilateral development banks and
financing mechanisms, the private sector, and knowledge institutions.
• CDRI now has 30 members, including 23 national governments and 7 organizations, as of April 2022.
• The International Conference on Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (ICDRI) is the annual conference of the CDRI.
• The fourth edition of ICDRI will be organized in a hybrid format in New Delhi from 4-6 May 2022.

India is Financing Nepal to Set Up Wastewater Treatment Plant
• The Indian embassy in Kathmandu has signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the
construction of the Khumjung Khunde Wastewater Management Project with the Ministry of
Federal Affairs and General Administration and Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality,
Soulukhumbu, Nepal.
• This is a community development project that will be built under the India-Nepal Development
Cooperation, with financial support from the Indian government, at a total estimated cost of Nepali
Rupees 41.13 million.

• Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Nepalese colleague Sher Bahadur Deuba
met in New Delhi, initiating a number of projects and signing four important
agreements across a variety of fields. Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (IOCL) and
Nepal Oil Corporation Ltd. signed agreements on Nepal becoming the 105th
member of the International Solar Alliance (ISA), technical cooperation in
railways, petroleum product delivery, and technical experience sharing in the
petroleum sector.
• Nepal will be the first country to adopt India’s UPI system, which will play a
pivotal role in transforming the digital economy of the neighbouring country, the
National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). NPCI International Payments
Ltd (NIPL), the international arm of NPCI, has joined hands with Gateway
Payments Service (GPS) & Manam Infotech to provide the services.

• Hindustan Aeronautics Limited hands over the first set of Gaganyaan mission
hardware to Indian Space Research Organisation during the inauguration of
HAL’s PS2/GS2 Stage integration facility in Bengaluru, Karnataka.

• The Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia and Madhya Pradesh Chief
Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan jointly inaugurated the first drone school in
Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh.
• As per the resolution of 7COP held at Paris between 29-31 September 2019, the State Parties
had agreed for contributing 1% of the regular budget of their respective nations to UNESCO
towards the Fund for the Elimination of Doping in Sport.
• The contributed fund will be used to support the implementation of the Fund’s Operational
Strategy 2020-2025.
• Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State for Atomic Energy and Space, said administrative
approval has been accorded by the Government for five new sites for locating nuclear power
plants in the future.
• The government has also provided financial sanctions for the construction of 10 indigenously
made 700 Mega Watt Pressurized Heavy Water Reactors (PHWRs) that are to be set up in fleet
mode.
• By 2031, the country’s nuclear capacity is expected to reach 22,480 Mega Watt.
• At present, there are 22 reactors that are operational in the country with a total capacity of 6,780
Mega Watt.
• Also, 10 reactors are in various stages of construction at present and they will be adding a total
capacity of 8,000 Mega Watt after their completion.

• Reliance Jio has tied up with Luxembourg-based satellite and telecom services
provider SES to provide satellite-based broadband communication services in
India. Under the agreement, Jio Platforms has formed a joint venture with SES,
named as Jio Space Technology Ltd.
• Jio Platforms (JPL) has signed a pact with the University of Oulu, Finland, to
accelerate research and standardization in 6G technology. JPL and the
University of Oulu will collaborate in Research and Development (R&D) of aerial

• The Weapons of Mass Destruction Amendment Bill, 2022 was recently passed
in Lok Sabha.
• The Bill bars persons from financing any prohibited activity related to weapons of
mass destruction and their delivery systems.
• Mass destruction are weapons with the capacity to inflict death and destruction
on such a massive scale and so indiscriminately that its very presence in the
hands of a hostile power can be considered a grievous threat.

• Amazon India signed an MoU with Karnataka State Rural Livelihood Promotion
Society (KSRLPS) to support the growth of women entrepreneurs. Amazon India
will launch ‘Sanjeevini-KSRLPS’ in its platform and extend benefits of the ‘Saheli’
Programme to train and empower thousands of rural women entrepreneurs and
also provide online access to a wider market for their products. The Saheli
Programme offers training and skill development workshops to help women
entrepreneurs.
• The World Bank and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank stated that the
Gujarat government’s Mission School of Excellence project.
• It aims to improve education quality in the state, will receive a loan worth Rs
7,500 crore.
• The state government will spend Rs 10,000 crore over the next five years on the
Mission School of Excellence initiative, which would cover all 35,133
government and 5,847 grant-in-aid schools in the state.

• Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), a multilateral development bank has committed
USD 150 million to invest in the development of data centres that mostly serve emerging Asia.
This project is being AIIB’s 1st data centre project. India is a key founding member of AIIB. AIIB’s
investment of USD 100 million through a parallel fund structure and USD 50 million through co-
investments mark the final close of KDCF II, a development fund making strategic investments in
the fast-growing data center sector with a focus on the Asia Pacific.
• Former Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor, Urjit Patel has been appointed as Vice President
of the multilateral funding institution Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) for a period of
three years. He will be one of the five Vice Presidents of the AIIB.
• The Government of India, the State Governments of Karnataka and Odisha and
the World Bank have signed a $115 million (INR 869 crore) Rejuvenating
Watersheds for Agricultural Resilience through Innovative Development
(REWARD) Programme.
