Defense Ministry signs an MoU with BoB and HDFC

• In order to reach seventeen lakh defense
pensioners nationwide, the Defence
Ministry has inked an MoU with Bank of
Baroda and HDFC Bank as part of for
Pension Administration program.
• Dr. Ajay Kumar, the secretary of defense,

stated that by the end of this month,
seventeen lakh of the thirty-two lakh
defense pensioners will be added to
SPARSH.
• The average time for pension settlement has decreased dramatically to just 16 days
• In the fiscal year 2021–2022, it was said that the SPARSH project has already enrolled one million
seniors and distributed 11,000 600 crore rupees.

Amazon tie-up with Amp Energy to establish its first solar

project in India
• Amazon said that its first solar farm
would be located in India.
• Three solar power plants with a combined

capacity of 420 megawatts (MW) will be built in
Rajasthan by the largest e-commerce
company, Amazon.
• Along with Amp Energy, Amazon has also

contracted to 210 MW and 110 MW projects with
ReNew Power and Brookfield Renewables,
respectively.
• Amp Energy India, a producer of renewable energy (RE), has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA)
to sell RE to Amazon from a 100 MW solar power facility in Rajasthan as part of Amazon’s plans for India.
• By the end of 2023, the facility at Bhadia, Rajasthan, will be completely operational.
• Additionally, 23 new solar rooftop projects worth a combined 4.09 MW have been launched by Amazon
for its fulfilment centres spread across 14 Indian cities. As a result, India now has 41 solar rooftop
projects with a combined renewable energy capacity of 19.7 MW.

• UNESCO GNLC is an international network consisting of cities that successfully promote lifelong learning
across their communities. It includes 294 cities from all around the world that share inspiration, know-
how and best practice among each other, the world body.
MoEF&CC gives 2-year Extension to Thermal Power Plants on

SO2 norms
• The Ministry of Environment, Forest and
Climate Change has extended the deadlines for
Thermal Power Plants to install pollution control
technologies and comply with new SO2 (Sulphur
Dioxide) emission norms.
• The deadline for the power plants within a

10-km radius of Delhi-NCR (National Capital Region)
and cities with a population of more than 10 lakh

has been extended from December 31, 2022 to December 31, 2024.
• For the power plants in a 10-km radius of critically-polluted areas or non-attainment cities, the deadline
has been pushed from December 31, 2023 to December 31, 2025.

December 31, 2026.
• Non-attainment cities are those that have consistently failed to meet the National Ambient Air Quality
Standards. The Central Pollution Control Board has identified 132 such cities.

Meghalaya has launched a multi-purpose
web portal for the Meghalaya Residents
Safety and Security Act (MRSSA), 2016.
• The web-based security system is initially

being implemented in seven localities of
Shillong (Meghalaya): Nongrim Hills,
Lapalang, Nongmynsong, Nongrah,
Pohkseh, Riat Laban, and Wahdienglieng.
• The web application was designed and

developed by the Government of Meghalaya in association with the National Informatics Centre (NIC)
Meghalaya.
• The digitisation initiative would connect over 6,000 villages and localities in Meghalaya to the online
system.
• It allows landlords, tenants, and local authorities in the localities and sub-localities to register and enter
rental unit information.
Inauguration of ‘Kartavya Path’

• Prime Minister Narendra Modi
inaugurated the road ‘Kartavya Path’ between
Rashtrapati Bhavan to India Gate. Rajpath is the
route where the 26 January parade takes place.
• From Rajpath to Kartavya Path, a 15.5 km

long walkway has been made of red granite on
both sides of this road. Also 16 bridges have been
built in the canal area of 19 acres.
• There will be a seating arrangement on

both sides of this duty path spread over 3.90 lakh

• The Rajpath witnessed the dawn of India’s independence, and hosts the annual Republic Day
celebrations.
• This ceremonial boulevard running from Raisina Hill Complex to India Gate was first known as Kingsway, a
landmark in the city of ‘New’ Delhi, built after the British Raj shifted its capital from Calcutta (now
Kolkata) in 1911.
• Then after independence its name was changed to ‘Rajpath’. And now its name will be ‘Kartavya Path’.
• Shapoorji Pallonji and Company Limited executed the redevelopment of the entire stretch from Vijay
Chowk to India Gate with an outlay of Rs 477 crore.
• It should be noted that Kartavya Path is the first of the Rs 13,450-crore Central Vista Projects to be
completed.
• Under Central Vista Projects, there will be a new Parliament building, new office and residences for the
Prime Minister and Vice-President and new ministry buildings. The North and South Blocks, the
secretariat buildings flanking Rashtrapati Bhavan, will be converted into museums.

• The team of sculptors for executing the statue was led by Arun Yogiraj.
• It has been installed in the same place where a hologram statue of Netaji was unveiled earlier this year on

• It will help strengthen the

partnership and identify freight solutions and
support them.
• During the launch, WRI India unveiled its

Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) Evaluator, an
intuitive excel- based application.
• In order to identify the freight impact on TOC per Kilometre, the TCO evaluator will analyse cost
components and performance parameters of light/medium/heavy-duty freight and compare electric
variants with its diesel/petrol/Coal & Natural Gas (CNG) counterparts.

• The dam is 411 meters long, 95.5 meters wide and 3 meters high.
• Apart from the rubber dam, the banks along the Falgu River have also been developed and a steel bridge
has been built for pilgrims to visit Sita Kund.
SETU programme introduced in the US by Piyush Goyal

• An Empowered Committee chaired by

Parameswaran Iyer, CEO of NITI Aayog

India), has approved 32 beneficiaries
under the Production Linked Incentive
(PLI) scheme for ‘Large-Scale Electronics
Manufacturing.’
• It is the first disbursement under any PLI

scheme, and 10 of the 32 beneficiaries (5
global and 5 domestic) were approved for
mobile manufacturing.
• The proposal for disbursement of incentive was made by the Ministry of Electronics and Information
Technology (MeitY).
• Padget Electronics Private Limited in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, is the first beneficiary approved by the
Empowered Committee.
• This is the first time that a mobile manufacturing unit has been selected under the PLI scheme.
• This scheme extends an incentive of 4% to 6% on net incremental sale of manufactured goods, to boost
electronics manufacturing and attract large scale investments.
Railroads to launch new version of the Vande Bharat 2 high-

speed train
• The Indian Railways will launch the new

Vande Bharat Express, a high-speed train in its
ongoing effort to provide passengers with the best
amenities.
• According to the ministry, Vande Bharat 2

will have further improvements and
developments, including a faster 0 to 100 Kmph
time of just 52 seconds, a top speed of 180 Kmph,

• Additionally, the new Vande Bharat will sport 32-inch LCD TVs, up from the previous model’s 24 inch size.

• According to the Ministry of Railways, a photo-catalytic ultra violet air purification technology is installed
in the roof-mounted Roof Mounted Package Unit (RMPU) for air purification in the new Vande Bharat
Express.
• This system is built and placed in both ends of the RMPU per the advice of Central Scientific Instruments
Organisation (CSIO), Chandigarh
• On February 15, 2019, Prime Minister Narendra Modi debuted the first Vande Bharat Express.
• As of March 2022, the Indian Railways will only operate the Vande Bharat Express, also known as Train
18, on two notable routes: one from New Delhi (NDLS) to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra (SVDK) and the

• It took 18 months for Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Perambur, Chennai, as part of the Indian

Railway Invited Private Players to Build Wheel Plant
• Indian Railways floated tenders for the

first time to invite private players to build
a wheel plant.
• The manufacturing and transport of

wheels for the rakes were halted due to
the Russia-Ukraine war. This initiative by
the Indian Railways will make India self-
reliant as well as draws a blueprint to
become an exporter of wheels.
• The plant aims to manufacture at

least 80,000 wheels every year for the Super-Fast Vande Bharat Express Trains in India.
• The Steel Authority of India is supplying one lakh wheels and the rest of the wheels will be produced by

National Maritime Heritage Complex to be built in Gujarat

• In phase 1A, a museum will be built with 5

maritime & naval theme park, climate change theme park, monument theme park and adventure &

the Delhi, a model “Early Intervention Centre-
Prayas” has been built with the goal of easing
suffering and fostering confidence in parents while

• This project will have a significant positive

impact on children of military members up to age
six who have difficulties such as autism, cerebral
palsy, sleep and language delays, and other
conditions.
• The newly established Center offers therapeutic services like special education, sensory integration
occupational and physiotherapy, behaviour modification, and nutritional counselling, as well as advanced
screening for hearing and visual defects, autism detection, and clinical identification of various

farmers, Farmer Producers Organizations (FPOs), millet processors, millet start-ups, and others to raise
awareness and interest in millets.
• The Millet Challenge will be administered by the Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) of the NITI Aayog (National
Institution for Transforming India), with UAS, Raichur as its field partner.

• Rs. 20 lakhs to 15 selected candidates

• Startups are encouraged by the “Millet Challenge” to develop products that address problems along the

• Sitharaman also announced a Rs. 25 crore funding from NABARD under the Rural Infrastructure
Development Fund to the University of Agricultural Sciences at Raichur, Karnataka.
• The production of millets climbed by 16% to 17.26 million tonne (MT) in the 2019–20 crop year (July–
June) from 14.5 MT in 2015–16, according to a report from the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers
Welfare.
• There are about 21 states where millets are grown in India, including Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil

• According to 2020 data, India is the world leader in millet production, accounting for approximately 41%

‘Operation Yatri Suraksha’ launched by Indian Railways

NABARD Allocates Rs 230 Crore for Rural Infra Projects in Mizoram
• The National Bank for Agriculture and

Rural Development has approved an allocation of
Rs. 230 crore for the approval of rural
infrastructure projects in Mizoram under the
Rural Infrastructure Development Fund XXVIII.
• In 1989, NABARD started a sub-office in

Mizoram, which was subsequently upgraded to a

• Since the RIDF was established in 1995–1996, NABARD has approved loans totaling Rs. 1744.51 crore for

Mission Amrit Sarovar
• Uttar Pradesh becomes the first state in
India to construct 8,642 Amrit Sarovar
(Lakes) in India.
• Amrit Sarovar is an ambitious mission

initiated by Prime Minister Narendra
Modi, which aims to conserve water for
the future. Madhya Pradesh is in
the second position, Jammu and
Kashmir in third, Rajasthan in fourth,
and Tamil Nadu ranked in the fifth
position.
• Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh, secured the first position within the state by constructing 256 Amrit
Sarovar. Gorakhpur secured the second position by constructing 245 lakes, and Pratapgarh secured the
third position by constructing 231 lakes.
• 15,497 Amrit Sarovar was identified in different villages panchayats of which 8,462 Amrit Sarovar have
been already developed.
• These Amirt Sarovars are twice the total number of Amrit Sarovar collectively developed in Madhya
Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, and Tamil Nadu.

Decline in Per Capita Government Spending on Healthcare
• According to the National Health

Accounts 2018-2019, public spending of health
has declined to 1.28 per cent of India’s Gross
Domestic Product
• The public spending on healthcare has

fallen from 1.35 per cent in 2017-18 to 1.28 per
cent in 2018-19.
• This is significantly lesser than the goal set

by the National Health Policy 2017, which sought
to increase the government’s healthcare
spending to 2.5 per cent by 2025.
• The government spent Rs.1,815 per capita on health in 2018-19 as against Rs.2,155 per capita out-of-
pocket spending during the same period.
• The total health expenditure in 2018-19 was Rs.5,96,440 crore. The government spending accounted for
40.61 per cent of this amount. This is 4.81 per cent of the General Government Expenditure during that
period.
• The corresponding share of out-of-pocket expenditure is 48.2 per cent. This is nearly half of all health
spending and higher than the government spending.
• Over 28.69 per cent of health expenditure was in private hospitals. This is higher than the health
expenditure in government hospitals, which accounted for 17.34% in the health expenditure.

• The key contents and concept of each of the thirteen parts of NBC 2016 was laid down in the booklet
using infographics and simplified language.
• It also provides easy understanding of the technical contents of various Parts/Sections of the voluminous
NBC 2016.
• The three pamphlets will also guide on the ways to take better services from municipal bodies, statutory

• The ‘African Cheetah Introduction Project in

India‘ was conceived in 2009.
• The cheetah has an ancient history in the country, with a Neolithic cave painting of a ‘slender spotted
feline being hunted’ having been found at Chaturbunj Nala in Mandasur, Madhya Pradesh.
• The name ‘cheetah’ is believed to have originated from Sanskrit word chitrak, which means ‘the spotted
one’.
• The cheetah is believed to have disappeared from the Indian landscape in 1947 when Maharaja Ramanuj
Pratap Singh Deo of Koriya princely state hunted down and shot the last three recorded Asiatic cheetahs
in India.
• The cheetah was officially declared extinct by the Indian government in 1952.
• The cheetahs boarded a customized Boeing 747-400 aircraft from Namibia’s capital Windhoek and
arrive in Gwalior, shifted from Gwalior to Kuno National Park in an Indian Air Force Chinook heavy-lift
helicopter.
• The aircraft bringing the animals has been sourced from a UAE-based aircraft company by Action
Aviation. It carries the image of a tiger on its nose.
• Dr Laurie Marker, has been an advisor to the Indian government on the cheetah relocation project for
over 12 years.
• This is the first time that a trans-continental project like this is taking off. That is, species are shifted
from one continent to other(in this case, Africa to Asia/India)

• The Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological

Park (PNHZP) (also called the Darjeeling
Zoo) in West Bengal’s Darjeeling has been

• There are around 150 zoos across the

country. As per the list, the Arignar Anna
Zoological Park in Chennai has secured the
second position, followed by the Sri
Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens in
Mysore, Karnataka.
• The zoological park is internationally recognised for its breeding and conservation programmes of
endangered animal species of the eastern Himalayas.
• The Red Panda is one of the top attractions of PNHZP, besides others such as the Himalayan Black Bear,

Saffron from Kashmir GI-tagged on sites both domestic and abroad
• Farmers in the Union Territory of Jammu and

Kashmir are now able to sell their products on
domestic and international marketplaces thanks to
the GI labelling of Kashmiri saffron.
• A GI is primarily an agricultural, natural or a

manufactured product (handicrafts and industrial
goods) originating from a definite geographical
territory.
• Once the GI protection is granted, no other

producer can misuse the name to market similar products. It also provides comfort to customers about
the authenticity of that product.
• The registration of a geographical indication is valid for a period of 10 years. It can be renewed.
• In India Geographical Indications registration is administered by the Geographical Indications of Goods

(Registration and Protection) Act, 1999 which came into force with effect from September 2003. The first

• Indian Council of Medical Research is conducting a first of its kind study on snakebite incidence in 14
states representing all geographical regions of the country.
• This study is based on a previous Sri Lankan study, which covered the entire island, surveying <1% of the
total population
• Himachal Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Kerala, Tamil Nadu,
Odisha, West Bengal, Uttarakhand, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Tripura have been included in this study.
• The main objective of this study is to generate realistic data on the incidence, mortality, morbidity and
socio-economic burden of snakebites in the country to help decision makers in policy making to prevent
and control snakebites in India.

• Ministry of Women and Child Development is celebrating 5th Rashtriya Poshan Maah 2022 from 1st to

started as Poshan Panchayat through Gram Panchayats.

• The Gross GST Revenue collected in the month of August 2022 is ₹ 1,43,612 crore which is 28% higher

• Arvind Kejriwal, Chief Minister of Delhi launched the First Virtual School’- Delhi Model Virtual School
(DMVS), affiliated with the Delhi Board of School Education and claimed that this school was a India’s

• The virtual school offers online classes, including virtual lectures, recorded and live lectures.
• It also provides skills-based courses, training for competitive exams, JEEMain (Joint Entrance

• The initial phase of this system will be taught to the students in grades 9 to 12. An individual who has

• India’s unemployment rate surged to a one-year high of 8.3 per cent in August as employment
sequentially fell by 2 million to 394.6 million, according to data from the Centre for Monitoring Indian
Economy (CMIE).
• During July, the unemployment rate was at 6.8 per cent and the employment was 397 million
• In August the urban unemployment rate shot up to 9.6 per cent and rural unemployment rate also
increased to 7.7 per cent
• During August, the unemployment was the highest in Haryana at 37.3 per cent followed by Jammu and
Kashmir at 32.8 per cent, Rajasthan at 31.4 per cent, Jharkhand at 17.3 per cent and Tripura at 16.3 per
cent
• While the unemployment was the lowest in Chhattisgarh at 0.4 per cent followed by Meghalaya at 2 per
cent, Maharashtra at 2.2 per cent and Gujarat and Odisha at 2.6 per cent each

• Tejas is a locally produced light multi-role fighter aircraft created by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited and

• The Tejas Mark-2, which will be a medium-weight aircraft and be utilised for offensive operations in
enemy territory, will be lighter than the Tejas Mark-1.
• Tejas Mark-1, which weighs around 13.5 tonnes, was created to replace MiG-21 aircraft, while Tejas
Mark-2, which is anticipated to weigh approximately 17.5 tonnes, is anticipated to replace Mirage and
Mig-29 aircraft.
Rajasthan Handicrafts Policy-2022

• The Rajasthan cabinet has recently approved the “Rajasthan Handicrafts Policy-2022”. Through this policy,
work will be done for the upliftment of handicrafts in the state and participation in the development of
the state will be ensured by empowering them.
• Under this, a national level handicrafts week will be organized every year in December, in which
handicraftsmen will be rewarded.
• Provision will be made by government departments to buy products up to Rs 10 lakh from registered

• A Handicraft Design Center will also be set up in Jodhpur to study the techniques and designs used in

Cabinet Approvals

• The States and UTs are offered to lift 15 lakh Metric Ton of Chana at the discount of Rs 8 per kg over the

• The Union Cabinet also approved the proposal of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change
for signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of Nepal on biodiversity conservation.
• The MoU envisages strengthening and enhancing the coordination and cooperation in the field of forests,
wildlife, environment, biodiversity conservation, climate change, restoration of corridors and interlinking
areas. Both sides also share knowledge and best practices.

Additional safety requirements in battery standards
• In April this year, cases of fire in electric two-wheelers of manufacturers such as Ola Electric, Okinawa
Autotech and PureEV were reported.
• Following which the government constituted an expert committee under the chairmanship of Tata
Narasimha Rao (Director, ARC, Hyderabad) to probe it.
• This committee submitted its recommendation to the government recently. These new safety standards
will come into effect from 1 October 2022.
• These new rules will be applicable to electric two-, three- and four-wheelers, passenger and goods
vehicles.
• These modifications include additional safety requirements relating to thermal diffusion due to fire from
the battery cell, on-board charger, the design of the battery pack, and internal cell short circuits.
• In this new amendment it has been made mandatory to include ‘Safety Fuse’. This will blow the battery
off the powertrain and immediately disconnect it in case of excessive heat generation or high current
outflow.
• EVs will now also have four additional sensors: These sensors will help to quickly identify the problem if
there is a problem with the battery system. These sensors will show an error on the console of the vehicle
which will alert the driver to take necessary corrective or remedial measures.
• It is also said to increase the distance between two battery cells used in electric vehicle batteries. It is
recommended by the panel to help release heat in the event of thermal runaway in rechargeable energy
storage systems (RESS) and to help detach cells.
• Electric vehicle chargers will be redesigned to include a charge voltage cut-off as well as a time-based
charge cut-off function. This will help prevent overcharging the RES.
• The EVs will have to be equipped with audio-visual alerts for early detection of thermal events or gases in
case of thermal runaway of the cell.

• Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers granted in-principle approval to the
proposals of three states viz. Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, and Andhra Pradesh under the scheme for
‘Promotion of Bulk Drug Parks to support the Bulk Drugs manufacturing in India.
• The financial assistance to the proposed Bulk Drug Park in Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh will be 70% of the
project cost of common infrastructure facilities.
• For HP, being Hilly States, financial assistance will be 90% of the project cost.
• Maximum assistance under the scheme for one Bulk Drug Park is limited to Rs.1000 crores.
• As per the proposals submitted by these States, the BDP will be established in 1402.44 acres of land at
Tehsil Haroli, District Una, HP; 2015.02 acres of land at Tehsil Jambusar, District Bharuch, Gujarat; and
2000.45 acres of land at K.P. Puram & Kodhada of Thondagi Mandal of East Godavari District, AP.

than two living children, and it can only be used for childbirth in an approved hospital.
Nation first-ever “Night Sky Sanctuary” to be set up in Ladakh
• India’s first-ever ‘night sky sanctuary’ will be set up within the next three months in Hanle, Ladakh
• The proposed dark sky reserve will be located at Hanle, Ladakh, and will boost astro-tourism in India
• The night sky sanctuary will be set up as part of the Changthang Wildlife Sanctuary, the world’s second-
largest nature reserve.
• The new project will be one of the world’s highest-located sites for optical, infrared, and gamma-ray
telescopes.

Convicts’ Biometrics
• The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has
issued rules for the Criminal Procedure
(Identification) Act, 2022.
• This Rules which empowers police and

central investigating agencies to collect biometric
data on people who have been convicted,
arrested, or detained.
• The law passed by Parliament in April 2022

took effect in August 2022, replacing the
Identification of Prisoners Act of 1920.
• The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), which operates under the MHA, is required under the
regulations to create a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) that specifies the devices and equipment
that will be used to collect biometric data.
• The Bill also authorises the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) to collect, store, and preserve these
details for 75 years.
• According to the new rules, measurements of a person may be taken for Act-related purposes by an
authorized user, a skilled measurement-taker, or a certified medical professional.
• The term “measurements” refers to - fingerprints, palm prints, foot prints, photographs, iris and retina
scans, physical and biological samples and their analysis, behavioural indicators like signatures,
handwriting, or any other examination.
• The rules require the NCRB to specify the format of the measurements, which can be digital or physical.
• Unauthorized access, distribution, or sharing of data collected under the Act is punishable under the
Indian Penal Code, 1860, and the Information Technology Act, 2000.

Centre Announces New Medical Device Rules to Simplify

Licensing Procedures
• The Union government has notified the

Medical Devices (Amendment) Rules, 2022, which
stipulates that all ‘Class A’ medical device
manufacturers must register themselves through
the “Online System for Medical Devices,” a
designated online platform created for the purpose.
• ‘Class A’ medical devices provide minimal to

moderate risk to the patient or user (like surgical
dressings).
• The manufacturer must self-certify that it meets the standards specified in the Medical Devices Rules,
2017.

• The importer of medical devices must also provide an undertaking confirming that the proposed
equipment is a ‘Class A’ medical device and that it complies with essential safety criteria.
• The licensing authorities may check the records or documents at any time and look into any complaints

or suspend the registration number.
• On September 14, 2022, the reconstituted National Medical Device Promotion Council (NMDPC), under
the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, held its first meeting, at the
Dr. Ambedkar International Centre in New Delhi, Delhi.

Project “Saaras” for menstruation health launched by Israeli

embassy in Ghaziabad
• As part of project “Saraas,” an initiative of
the Israeli embassy in India in conjunction with
NGO Khushii, which aims to raise awareness
about menstruation health and cleanliness and
improve skills and capacity for women, the centre
was opened by Naor Gilon, the Israeli
ambassador to India.
• About 20 kilometres from the national

capital of Delhi, the densely populated Arthala
hamlet/village, is home to an estimated 200,000

inhabitants, the majority of whom are from lower socioeconomic classes.
• With assistance from MASHAV, Israel’s organisation for foreign development cooperation, this industrial
facility was constructed.
• The facility can already produce 10,000 sanitary pads every day and currently has a workforce of 15
women, the most of whom are from Arthala.
Naturally made Sanitary Pads:
• The pads sold under the Saaras brand are likewise entirely natural and do not go through any chemical
washing or refining processes.
• An all-female local team that has received training from the NGO Khushii oversees the entire process,
from the initial stage of pad creation to its distribution.

• The Swadesh Darshan scheme was launched by the Tourism Ministry in 2014-2015 to achieve the
integrated development of theme-based tourist circuits.
• Under this central sector scheme, the government identified 15 tourist circuits.
• These include Ramayana Circuit, Buddhist Circuit, Coastal Circuit, Desert Circuit, Eco Circuit, Heritage,
North East, Himalayan, Sufi, Krishna, Rural, Tribal, and Tirthankar Circuits etc.
• Until March 2022, the government has sanctioned 76 projects in these 15 circuits.
• These projects seek to ensure a comprehensive development of all sites related to the theme-based

The Agriculture Infrastructure Fund
• (AIF) is a financing facility launched in 2020 to improve post-harvest management infrastructure and
community farm assets through benefits like 3 percent interest subvention and credit guarantee
support.
• Under this, Rs.1 lakh crore funds are provided from 2020-21 to 2025-26 and interest subvention and
credit guarantee assistance will be provided until 2032-33.
• The AIF has the facility of convergence with other schemes implemented by states and central
government, enabling the optimization of multiple government schemes for a specific project.
• The PMFME scheme was launched to provide financial, technical and commercial assistance for the
upgradation of micro food processing enterprises across India.
• It will be implemented from 2020-21 to 2024-25.
• The total outlay for this scheme is Rs.10,000 crore.
• It uses the One District One Product (ODOP) approach to boost procurement, avail common services and
marketing of products.

Committee to Review Marketing Practices of Pharma Companies

• The Central Government has formed a 5-
member high-level committee to review
marketing practices of pharmaceutical
companies in India.
• It will be chaired by Vinod Kumar (VK)

Paul member (health), NITI (National Institution
for Transforming India) Aayog.
• It will also review various other issues

pertaining to the Uniform Code of
Pharmaceutical Marketing Practices (UCPMP),
and recommend legally enforceable measures against firms indulging in malpractices.
• The committee is expected to submit its recommendation within the next three months (90 days).
• The formation of the committee follows the reports of pharma companies were spending exorbitant
amounts on promotion and publicity of drugs including anti-fever medicine Dolo 650mg.
• Currently, publicity and promotion by pharma companies is supervised under the Uniform Code of
Pharmaceutical Marketing Practices (UCPMP), the Indian Medical Council Regulations, 2002, and also by
the CBDT(central board of Direct Taxes).
• The Indian Medical Council Regulations, 2002, details professional misconduct by medical practitioners
,including accepting gifts from drug companies and commissions from laboratories.
• The rules under CBDT require pharma companies to file details on how much they spend on promotion
and publicity.

India Gets its First Dugong Conservation Reserve in Tamil Nadu

• Government of Tamil Nadu notified India’s
first “Dugong Conservation Reserve” in the Palk
Bay region, covering the coastal waters of
Thanjavur and Pudukkottai Districts of Tamil Nadu
with an area of 448 Square Kilometres.
• In September 2021 Government of Tamil

Nadu (GoTN) initiated the idea of ‘Dugong
Conservation Reserve’ to be established in Palk
Bay region, in order to protect the endangered
Dugong species and its marine habitats in Tamil
Nadu..

• Dugongs are largest herbivorous marine mammals that primarily feed on seagrass beds, a major carbon
sink of the ocean. It is also know as sea Cow.
• They are protected under Schedule 1 of the Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972 as they are at their verge of

• At present, there are around 240 Dugongs in India and a majority of them are found in the Tamil Nadu
Coast (Palk Bay region).

India’s first plant-based meat shipped to US

• Agricultural and Processed Food Products
Export Development Authority (APEDA) has
announced that, Greenest,(which is a leading
plant protein food brand) has shipped India’s
first plant-based meat export consignment to
the USA from Gujarat in India.
• The plant-based consignment is 5000 kg

and consists of mini samosas, hot and spicy strips,
momos, spring rolls, nuggets, grilled patty, and
other vegan products.
• Greenest is India’s pioneer in plant-based protein products
India’s first successful full-arm transplant performed in Kerala hospital
• India’s first full arm transplant was

performed at the Kerala-based Amrita
Hospital.
• It is the third of its type in the world,

such a transplant was only performed

• The team of doctors for the full arm surgery was led by Dr. Subramania Iyer, head, of the center of

MCA Amends Corporate Social Responsibility Rules
• The Ministry of Corporate Affairs amended

the Companies (Corporate Social
Responsibility Policy) Rules, 2014 .
• To calculate the cost of conducting social

impact assessments of Corporate Social
Responsibility (CSR) activities and the
procedure for handling unspent CSR funds
of companies.
• MCA has also issued a new format for the

annual report on CSR activities, which will be included in the board’s report for the fiscal year beginning
on or after April 1, 2020.
• It has also modified the way companies calculate the expenditure of conducting an impact assessment.
• It requires the large CSR spenders to conduct an independent impact assessment of their activities.
• Companies having a CSR budget of Rs. 10 crore or more and all projects with an outlay of Rs. 1 crore or
more are mandated to do such impact assessments.
• According to the CSR rules, companies are required to establish a ‘CSR Committee’ to oversee the
implementation of their CSR obligations if they have any funds in their “Unspent Corporate Social
Responsibility Account.”
• Companies are entitled to keep unspent CSR funds in this designated account, but must utilize them
within three fiscal years.
• According to the new rules, expenditure for social impact assessment that can be included in CSR
spending cannot exceed 2% of total CSR expenditure for the relevant fiscal year or Rs. 50 lakh, whichever
is greater.
• Prior to the amendment, the rules only permitted up to 5% of total CSR spending or Rs. 50 lakh,
whichever is less.

• In addition, the company website must provide information about the composition of the CSR
committee, the CSR policy, and CSR projects that have been authorized by the board.
• Companies must spend on CSR activities if they have a net worth of at least Rs. 500 crore or a minimum
turnover of Rs. 1,000 crore, or a net profit of Rs. 5 crore or more during the immediately preceding
financial year.

• Under CRCTA, There will be single point

SRESTHA- Gujarat Project
• USD 350 million in aid has been approved

by the World Bank for the “Systems Reform
Endeavors for Transformed Health
Achievement” in Gujarat or the SRESTHA-G
project.
• This project will be costing USD 500 million

and the World Bank is providing USD 350
million to support this project and the rest
will be borne by the state government.
• The funding be provided by International Bank of Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), with a
maturity of 18 years, including a grace period of 5.5 years.
• This programme will also be focusing on the key areas of improving equity, quality, and inclusiveness of
primary healthcare services for all adolescent girls in the state.
• It will also focus on the disease surveillance systems’ capacity. The project will also be aiming to increase
the state’s quality of psychiatric and non-communicable disease services, and the quality of nutrition
services for children and mothers. Special focus will also be given towards boosting health and nutritional
status of adolescent girls and boys, especially in 14 districts where more than 70 per cent of adolescent
girls suffer from anemia.
• This project will be implemented by the state government of Gujarat through the Health and Family
Welfare Department of the state.

M&M to acquire Swaraj Engines’ stake from Kirloskar Industries

• Mahindra & Mahindra(M&M) announced
to acquire an additional 21,14,349 equity
shares constituting 17.41% stake in
Swaraj Engines Ltd (SEL) from Kirloskar
Industries Ltd (KIL) for Rs 296 crore.
• The acquisition will result in increasing

M&M’s stake in SEL to 52.13% 34.72%.
• M&M will acquire equity shares at a price

of Rs 1,400 per share. After the
acquisition, SEL, which is currently an associate of the company, would become a subsidiary of M&M.
• SEL is based in Mohali, Punjab. It is involved in the business of manufacturing diesel engines and its
components.
LIC sold 2% shares in Mahindra & Mahindra
• Life Insurance Corporation of India has sold 2% of its shareholding in Mahindra & Mahindra Limited for
about Rs 2,222.49 crore.
India to receive 1st 100% Ethanol & Electric Car
• On October 2022, India will receive its 1st

Flex-Fuel Vehicle (FFV) which can run on ethanol
blended petrol and battery.
• In the 2nd week of October, Nitin Gadkari,

Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways will
flag off the car.
• Brazil-based Flex Fuel Strong Hybrid Electric

Vehicles (FFV-SHEV) will be used as a model to assess their reduced carbon emissions performance.
• FFV have engines that can operate on flexible fuel, a combination of petrol and ethanol, producing up

launch of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission

• More than 10 crore impoverished people

are intended to benefit from the programme,
which offers vulnerable families a five lakh rupee health subsidy each year.
Chhattisgarh launched ‘Hamar Beti Hamar Maan’ campaign
• A campaign on women’s safety

titled ‘Hamar Beti Hamar Maan’ (our
daughter, our honour).
• The focus of the campaign is creating

awareness on safety measures among
school- and college-going girls and
prioritising registration and investigation of
women-related crimes.
• Under the campaign, lady police officers

and personnel will visit schools and colleges in the state to hold discussions and give guidance on legal
rights, good touch-bad touch and preventive measures against sexual harassment and exploitation,
cybercrime and social media-related crime, to girl students.
• A helpline number will also be issued under the Hamar Beti Hamar Maan campaign. Details on the
women’s safety app and its use will also be shared with the school- and college-going girls.
• Special women patrolling will be ensured at girls’ schools, colleges and public places.

(DGRE) have jointly installed the Avalanche
Monitoring Radar, The first of its kind in India,
in north Sikkim.

avalanches, this radar can also be employed to
detect landslides.

operational by the Defence Research and Development Organisation’s wing DGRE.

Sign Learn to make Indian Sign Language

• Sign Learn is a mobile application-based

Indian Sign Language Dictionary having
10,000 words.

Empowerment Pratima Bhoumik
• It was developed based on the Indian Sign Language Dictionary of the Indian Sign Language Research And
Training Centre (ISLRTC).
• In the application, all the words can be searched either in Hindi or English.
• On this occasion, ISL e-content of NCERT textbooks of class 6 and Indian Sign Language versions of
selected books of ‘Veergatha’ series were launched.
• The e-content was developed after an MoU was signed in 2020 for converting NCERT textbooks for
classes 1 to 12 into digital ISL format to make them more accessible for children having hearing
disabilities.
