Kerala: Expert committee to study human rabies deaths
• Kerala Health Minister Veena George has
issued orders to set up an expert committee
to study human rabies deaths in Kerala
following a rise in cases of stray dog bites in
Kerala.

• According to the Kerala Health Ministry data,


more than 95,000 people were bitten by
dogs in eight months this year and 14 people
died compared to 11 last year.

GoI sets up Committee to moderate gas price


• The government of India set up a
Committee to review the formula to formalise
the pricing of gas produced by companies.

• The committee, chaired by Energy Expert


Dr. Kirit Shantilal Parikh (Kirit S Parikh), a former

DRDO & Indian Army Successfully Conduct 6 Flight-Tests of QRSAM
• Defense Research and Development
Organization and the Indian Army
completed six flight tests of the Quick
Reaction Surface to Air Missile
system from Integrated Test Range,
Chandipur, on the Odisha Coast

• QRSAM is a short-range Surface Air


Missile system, which is designed and
developed by the DRDO.

• The six flight tests were carried out


against high-speed aerial targets mimicking various types of threats to evaluate the capability of
the QRSAM as a short-range Surface Air Missile (SAM) system.

Third stealth frigate of project 17A ‘Taragiri’ launched

• ‘Taragiri’, the third stealth frigate of the


Indian Navy’s Project 17A was launched in
Mumbai by the Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders.

• The ship is expected to be delivered by


August 2025

• The frigate is designed by the Indian


Navy’s in-house design organization, the Bureau
of Naval Design.

• The coveted ‘Project 17A’ was cleared by


the govt back in 2015.

named in honour of General Bipin
Rawat, India’s first Chief of Defence Staff
who was killed in a chopper crash in

garrison’ and the road was named as

Indian Army Exercise Parvat Prahar


• Army Chief General Manoj Pande recently
visited the Ladakh sector to review Exercise Parvat
Prahar and was briefed about the operational
preparedness on the ground by the commanders.
The exercise saw the deployment of an all new
major induction of the Army.

• This exercise named Parvat Prahar is being


conducted by the One Strike Corps of the Indian
Army.

• The strike corps means that if China or Pakistan act anywhere, they will first enter and eliminate it.

• Parvat Prahar is a 20-day long exercise of the Indian Army.

SAREX 22 Indian Coast Guard Exercise


• The Indian Coast Guard recently
conducted its biennial National Maritime Search
and Rescue Exercise SAREX 22 off the Chennai
coast.

• The objective of this exercise is to avoid


accidents at sea and save lives by conducting
rescue operations.

• During this, 24 observers from 16


countries participated in the exercise organized
under the theme ‘Capacity Building Towards
Maritime Security’.

• This was the 10th exercise conducted by the Coast Guard.

India-Japan joint naval drills in the Bay of Bengal begins


• The sixth edition of Japan-India Maritime
Exercise 2022 (JIMEX 22), hosted by the
Indian Navy, began in the Bay of Bengal.

• The Indian Navy is represented by three


indigenously designed and built warships,
Sahyadri, a multi-purpose stealth frigate
and Anti-Submarine Warfare
Corvettes Kadmatt and
Kavaratti. Additionally, Guided Missile
Destroyer Ranvijay, Fleet Tanker Jyoti,
Offshore Patrol Vessel Sukanya, submarines, MIG 29K fighter aircraft, Long Range Maritime Patrol Aircraft
and ship-borne helicopters are also participating in the exercise.

• JIMEX 22 involves two phases – exercises at sea and a harbour phase at Visakhapatnam.

Exercise Kakadu 2022
• INS Satpura and P8 I Maritime Patrol
Aircraft of the Indian Navy reached Darwin in
Australia for participating in the multinational
Exercise Kakadu 2022, which is hosted by the
Australian Navy.

• The Exercise Kakadu 2022 will be a two-


week exercise both in the harbor and at sea.

• This two-week-long exercise involves ships


and maritime aircraft from 14 Navies.

• More than 30 aircraft and around 3000 personnel from more than 20 countries participated in Exercise
Kakadu.

• KA22 is held by Royal Australian Navy (RAN) and supported by Royal Australian Air Force.

• The theme for this year’s Exercise Kakadu 2022 is ‘Partnership, Leadership, Friendship’.

• An Indian Naval Ship (INS) Tarkash took
part in a Joint Maritime Exercise with Nigerian
Navy Patrol.

• The exercise marked India and Nigeria’s first


joint operational deployment focusing on anti-
piracy operations in the GOG(Gulf of Guinea).

• INS Tarkash (F50) is the second Talwar-class


frigate constructed for IN at the Yantar shipyard in
Kaliningrad, Russia.

• These are modified Krivak III-class frigates built by Russia.

• She was commissioned to IN in 2012 and joined the Western Naval Command.

IAF’s Project Cheetah: Indian defence companies to equip Israeli


Heron drones
• The Israeli Heron drones would be
equipped with strike capabilities as part of
the Indian Air Force’s Project Cheetah
under the Make in India programme.

• The Project Cheetah aims to improve the


Indian Air Force’s fleet of Israeli-made
Heron unmanned aerial vehicles with
stronger communication capabilities and
long-range missiles that can hit enemy
sites.

• The forces on the ground would be able to gather precise intelligence regarding hiding places in regions
where men must participate in operations with the improvement in surveillance capabilities.

Indian Air Force set to retire Abhinandan’s MiG-21 squadron

• The Indian Air Force is set to retire its


Srinagar-based MiG-21 squadron ‘Sword Arms’.

• MiG-21 squadron ‘Sword Arms’ was a


part of strike when wing commander abhinandan
Varthaman had downed an F-16 combat aircraft
of Pakistan a day after the Balakot strike in
February 2019.

• ‘Sword Arms’ is one of its four remaining


squadrons of ageing MiG-21 fighter jets.

• The remaining three squadrons of MiG-21 will be phased out by 2025.

• IAF is inducting different variants of the indigenous Tejas light combat aircraft to replace the MiG-21s.

• The air force got its first single-engine MiG-21 in 1963.

• Over 400 MiG-21s have been involved in accidents over the past six decades, killing around 200 pilots.

with Bharat Broadband Network Limited
(BBNL), which is a fully government-owned
broadband infrastructure provider company. BBNL
helps in providing internet services to the soldiers.

• BBNL is working on Bharat Net scheme which aims to provide internet connectivity using satellites to
rural remote areas including 7000-gram panchayats.

rendering 32 years of service to the
nation.

• The decommissioning of INS Ajay was

• INS Ajay was commissioned on 24th


January 1990 at Poti, Georgia in the
erstwhile USSR, and was part of the 23rd
Patrol Vessel Squadron under the
operation control of Flag Officer Commanding, Maharashtra.

• INS Ajay has participated in several naval operations including Op Talwar during Kargil War and Op
Parakram in 2001.

Abhyas-01/22
• A joint exercise ‘Abhyas-01/22’ between
the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) and the United
States Coast Guard (USCG) was held off Chennai
coast in Tamil Nadu

• It also promotes a ‘free and open’ Indo-


Pacific.

• It should be noted that the US Coast


Guard cutter Midgett took part in the exercise
who was on a 4-day goodwill visit for at-sea & in-
port pro exchanges with the ICG.

• Over the course of this voyage, the Midgett interacted with counterparts in the Philippines, Singapore,
and also taken part in bilateral exercises.

• 418 feet long and 54 feet wide, Midgett is the largest & most tech advanced of US CG newest class of

China Patrolling Point (PP) 15 in the
Gogra-Hot Springs area on the Line of
Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh.

• This disengagement process follows the


16th round of talks between the corps
commanders of India and China that was held at Chushul Moldo Meeting Point in July 2022.

• India and China have agreed on disengagement in the area of Gogra-Hot Springs (PP-15).

• Parvat Prahar was held in the Ladakh plateau at an altitude of 14,000 feet, by the Mathura-based 1
strike Corps of the Indian Army.

• The exercise is also supported by the 17 mountain strike corps with its headquarters at Panagarh in
West Bengal which in turn focuses on the eastern front, including Chumbi Valley.

Defence ministry contract for BrahMos missiles


• The Indian Government has inked a
Rs.1,700 crore contract with BrahMos
Aerospace Pvt Ltd for procuring
BrahMos missiles.

• The contract was signed by the Defence


Ministry to purchase 35 combat and 3
practice BrahMos supersonic dual-role
surface-to-surface cruise missiles.

• The range of these missiles is 290 km


and they are capable of both land
attacks and anti-ship strikes.

• Their speed is 2.8 Mach, which is almost three times the speed of sound.

• These missiles will be equipped in two P-15B class stealth guided missile destroyers of the Indian Navy.

• BrahMos is the fastest supersonic missile and the fastest anti-ship cruise missile in the world.

• The supersonic cruise missiles travel at the speed of mach 1 to mach 5.

• The hypersonic cruise missiles travel at the speed higher than mach 5.

• Cruise missiles are capable of travelling at hypersonic, supersonic or high subsonic(M<1) speeds, are self-
navigating, and are able to fly on a non-ballistic, extremely low-altitude trajectory.

• It was developed by BrahMos Aerospace – a joint venture between DRDO and Russia’s NPO
Mashinostroyeniya.

• The missile was named after Brahmaputra river in India and Moskva river in Russia.

• In 2016, since India entered into the Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR), India and Russia
decided to develop a new generation of Brahmos missiles with a range of 400 km and then increase it to
600 km.

Project 15B

• Under Project 15B, four stealth-guided missile destroyers are being constructed at the cost of Rs.
29,643.74 crores.

• These destroyers are improved versions of Kolkata-class destroyers.

TATA Developed muniation Test Fired at Pokhran

• An indigenous loitering munition, ALS 50


developed by TATA Advanced Systems Limited
has been successfully tested by demonstrating its
strike capability tests at Pokhran, Rajasthan.

• Previously in 2022, the ALS 50 has


demonstrated its ability to operate in high
altitude areas during tests in Ladakh.

• ALS 50, is an autonomous targeting


system that can accurately identify and hit a
predetermined target.

• It has the range of 1,000 kilometers.

BSF Drone Tear Smoke Launcher

• Recently, the Tear Smoke Unit of the Border Security Force has developed an indigenous drone Tear
Smoke Launcher.

• This launcher will be used to control the crowd and to release tear gas shells during riots and unrest.

• It can be used to launch shells from Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) or drones and will be a potential
force multiplier for security forces operating in the law and order management sector.

• In this, tear gas shells can be fired within a radius of 250-300 meters through drones. A drone can be
loaded with 2 to 6 tear gas shells and dropped on the target area.

• The celebration honours India’s conquest of Hyderabad in 1948, which came about as a result of India’s
division.

• 562 of the then-existing 565 princely nations made the decision to join India.

• However, none of the three princely realms of Hyderabad, Junagadh, or Kashmir either integrated with
India or showed any interest in doing so.

• The entire present-day state of Telangana was a part of the Nizam’s Hyderabad state, as was the
Marathwada region of Maharashtra, which included the districts of Aurangabad, Beed, Hingoli, Jalna,
Latur, Nanded, Osmanabad, and Parbhani, as well as the Kalaburagi, Bellary Raichur, Yadgir, Koppal,
Vijayanagara, and Bidar.

• After India gained independence, the Nizam of Hyderabad resisted the idea of joining India and intended
to maintain his independence. The last Nizam of Hyderabad’s princely state, Osman Ali Khan Asaf Jah VII,
was offered to join India in 1947 but turned it down.

• Instead, he declared Hyderabad a sovereign state on August 15, 1947, which heightened the tense
situation and sparked racial violence.

• The confusion, the murky discussions, or the revelations that Hyderabad had armed itself with Pakistan’s
help did not sit well with the Indian administration.

• Hyderabad’s freedom was not something the newly independent India wanted since they thought it
would cause the nation to become more divided.

• The idea of an independent Hyderabad was described as “an ulcer in the heart of India that needs to be
removed surgically” by the then-Home Minister Sardar Patel.

• India chose the term “Operation Polo” for their decision to conquer Hyderabad. The operation was done
under the guidance of Sardar Patel.

• Hyderabad was taken into India by Police action on September 13, 1948.

• The Indian Army and Police took Hyderabad under their control and completely incorporated it into Indian
territory in a five-day campaign by soundly beating Nizam.

• 32 people were killed and 97 were injured during the five-day conflict on the Indian side, while 490
people were murdered and 122 were injured on the Hyderabadi side.

years of liberation of Hyderabad.

• At the time of the Partition of India, in


1947, India was divided into British India and
Princely states.

Pakistan or India. Hyderabad was one of the large princely state.

• Indian Home Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel decided to annex Hyderabad, and that led to ‘Operation
Polo’ (Police action against Hyderabad).

• Nizam of Hyderabad Mir Osman Ali Khan, the 7th in the line of the Asaf Jahi dynasty, had surrendered
Hyderabad during the Operation and the state was integrated into the territory of India on 17th
September 1948, which is now celebrated as Hyderabad Liberation Day.

• 17th September is also celebrated as Marathwada Liberation Day by Maharashtra and Hyderabad-
Karnataka Liberation Day by Karnataka.

it is fully electric-driven powered by solar energy and can operate at 20 km above the Earth’s surface for

• India is the largest importer of palm oil in Asia, accounting for 15% of global imports, followed by China

• The Government of Delhi partnered with
the Government of Punjab to use Pusa bio-
decomposer, a microbial solution which can
decompose paddy straw in 15 to 20 days, on
5,000 acres of land to prevent stubble burning.

• As a part of a pilot project implemented


with the help of the Indian Agricultural Research
Institute (IARI), Pusa bio-decomposer will be
sprayed over 5000 acres (2023 hectares) on
stubble by which the crop residue gets mixed in
the soil in Punjab.

GoI & Assam Govt Signs Tripartite Peace Accord with Eight
Tribal Militant Groups

accord with 8 tribal militant groups of
Assam for bringing peace in the areas.

• The accord was signed 10 years after


the peace process that started in 2012.

Northeast region extremism free by
2025.

• A special development package of Rs 1,000 crore will be provided to improve the tribal areas of Assam.

India, Egypt sign MoU to bolster defence cooperation


• India and Egypt have signed an MoU to
bolster defense cooperation and decided
to enhance joint military exercises,

including the Akash Missile.

• Akash missile System is capable of intercepting hostile aircraft, helicopters, drones, and subsonic cruise

Meghalaya & Tamil Nadu Signs MoU for Recruitment & Training
of Medical Professionals

• The Government of Meghalaya signed a


Memorandum of Understanding with the
Government of Tamil Nadu for supporting
Meghalaya in recruitment and training of medical
professionals.

• This is a first-of-its-kind medical


partnership between the two Indian states for
collaboration on knowledge sharing, capacity
building and improving health service delivery.

• This MoU is part of Meghalaya’s efforts to


improve its health indicators and other health initiatives including Chief Minister’s Safe Motherhood
Scheme (CM-SMS) under the rescue mission initiative to reduce Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) and
Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) that aims at strengthening and ensuring safe deliveries in remote areas.

NCC and UNEP sign an agreement

(NCC) and the United Nations
Environment Programme (UNEP).

• A Memorandum of Understanding was


inked to use the Tide Turners Plastic
Challenge programme and the Puneet
Sagar Abhiyan to combat plastic pollution
