• In New Delhi, Jayanta Baruah (a politician


from Assam) gave Prime Minister Narendra Modi a
copy of the Assamese Dictionary Hemkosh in Braille.

• Assamese Dictionary Hemkosh was one of the


first Assamese dictionaries, published in the
nineteenth century.

• The earliest Assamese etymological


dictionary based on Sanskrit spellings is
called Assamese Dictionary Hemkosh and was
created by Hemchandra Barua. 33 years after the release of Bronson’s dictionary,

• It was first published in the early 20th century under the direction of Capt. P. R. Gordon, ISC, and
Hemchandra Goswami.

• There were around 22,346 words in it. Assamese Dictionary Hemkosh, which is still being published by
Hemkosh Printers, is regarded as the primary source for Assamese spelling.

Convergence Portal between AIF, PMFME scheme & PMKSY


• A convergence portal was jointly launched
by the Union Ministry of Food Processing
Industries and Ministry of Agriculture and
Farmers Welfare to increase the potential of
India’s agriculture and food processing sector.

• The convergence portal brings together

• Agriculture Infrastructure Fund (AIF)


scheme,

• Pradhan Mantri Micro Food Enterprises


Upgradation Scheme (PMFME), and

• Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana (PMKSY).

• It aims to boost the concept of “Vocal for Local”.

• The convergence portal aims to ensure effective collaboration between all ministries.

The Agriculture Infrastructure Fund

• (AIF) is a financing facility launched in 2020 to improve post-harvest management infrastructure and
community farm assets through benefits like 3 percent interest subvention and credit guarantee
support.

• Under this, Rs.1 lakh crore funds are provided from 2020-21 to 2025-26 and interest subvention and
credit guarantee assistance will be provided until 2032-33.

• The AIF has the facility of convergence with other schemes implemented by states and central
government, enabling the optimization of multiple government schemes for a specific project.

• The PMFME scheme was launched to provide financial, technical and commercial assistance for the
upgradation of micro food processing enterprises across India.

• It will be implemented from 2020-21 to 2024-25.

• The total outlay for this scheme is Rs.10,000 crore.

• It uses the One District One Product (ODOP) approach to boost procurement, avail common services and
marketing of products.

Committee to Review Marketing Practices of Pharma Companies


• The Central Government has formed a 5-
member high-level committee to review
marketing practices of pharmaceutical
companies in India.

• It will be chaired by Vinod Kumar (VK)


Paul member (health), NITI (National Institution
for Transforming India) Aayog.

• It will also review various other issues


pertaining to the Uniform Code of
Pharmaceutical Marketing Practices (UCPMP),
and recommend legally enforceable measures against firms indulging in malpractices.

• The committee is expected to submit its recommendation within the next three months (90 days).

• The formation of the committee follows the reports of pharma companies were spending exorbitant
amounts on promotion and publicity of drugs including anti-fever medicine Dolo 650mg.

• Currently, publicity and promotion by pharma companies is supervised under the Uniform Code of
Pharmaceutical Marketing Practices (UCPMP), the Indian Medical Council Regulations, 2002, and also by
the CBDT(central board of Direct Taxes).

• The Indian Medical Council Regulations, 2002, details professional misconduct by medical practitioners
,including accepting gifts from drug companies and commissions from laboratories.

• The rules under CBDT require pharma companies to file details on how much they spend on promotion
and publicity.

with an area of 448 Square Kilometres.

• In September 2021 Government of Tamil


Nadu (GoTN) initiated the idea of ‘Dugong
Conservation Reserve’ to be established in Palk
Bay region, in order to protect the endangered
Dugong species and its marine habitats in Tamil

India’s first successful full-arm transplant performed in Kerala hospital

• India’s first full arm transplant was


performed at the Kerala-based Amrita Hospital.

• It is the third of its type in the world,


such a transplant was only performed previously
in Mexico and France.

• The First request was accepted


by Amaresh, who waited for a suitable donor for
years, and Vinod agreed to donate his hands.

• Vinod is a 54-year-old man working in


West Asia, he met an accident and suffered serious injuries, and lost his life in Thiruvananthapuram.

• Vinod’s family donated his various organs, including his hands, and doctors of Amrita Hospital flew to
Thiruvananthapuram to harvest the organ.

• The team of doctors for the full arm surgery was led by Dr. Subramania Iyer, head, of the center of
Plastic and Reconstruction surgery, and Dr. Mohit Sharma, Professor, Center for Plastic and
Reconstruction Surgery.

PM-PRANAM Scheme to Reduce Usage of Chemical Fertilizers

• The Government of India intends to


launch the Pradhan Mantri Promotion
of Alternate Nutrients for Agriculture
Management Yojana (PM PRANAM) to
reduce the usage of chemical fertilizers.

• The PM PRANAM Scheme is an initiative


to promote using fertilizers in a
balanced manner along with bio-
fertilizers and organic fertilizers as
alternative sources of nutrients.

• The programme intends to lower the cost of subsidies for chemical fertilizers, which is projected to rise
to Rs 2.25 lakh crore in 2022–23, a 39% increase from Rs 1.62 lakh crore in 2021–22.

• The need for four fertilizers—Urea, DAP (di-ammonium phosphate), MOP (muriate of potash), and NPK
(Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Kalium [Potassium])—increased by 21%, from 528.86 lakh metric tonnes
(LMT) in 2017–18 to 640.27 LMT in 2021–22.

• According to official data, the actual expenditure on fertilizer subsidies in 2020-21 was Rs. 1.27 lakh
crore. The GoI budgeted Rs. 79,530 crore in the Union Budget 2021-22, which was increased to Rs. 1.40
lakh crore in the revised estimates (RE).

• However, the total subsidy for fertilizer in 2021–22 reached Rs. 1.62 lakh crore.

• In August 2022, the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers has decided to implement the “One Nation One
Fertilizer” initiative by introducing a “Single Brand for Fertilizers and Logo” under the “Pradhan Mantri
Bhartiya Janurvarak Pariyojna” (PMBJP) fertilizer subsidy scheme.

• It has issued an order mandating all businesses to sell their products under the single brand name
“Bharat” in order to achieve uniformity in fertilizer brands throughout India. Under the PMBJP scheme,
the Central Government provides fertilizer subsidies on an annual basis.

Hero MotoCorp tie-up with HPCL to set up EV charging infrastructure

• Hero MotoCorp has joined hands


with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation
Ltd to set up charging infrastructure for
electric two-wheelers in the country.

• As a part of the initiative, the two


companies will first establish charging
infrastructure at Hindustan Petroleum
Corporation’s (HPCL) existing network of
stations, with the likelihood of
subsequently broadening the collaboration
for supplementary business opportunities.

Defense Ministry signs an MoU with BoB and HDFC


• In order to reach seventeen lakh defense
pensioners nationwide, the Defence Ministry
has inked an MoU with Bank of Baroda
and HDFC Bank as part of for Pension
Administration program.

• Dr. Ajay Kumar, the secretary of


defense, stated that by the end of this month,
seventeen lakh of the thirty-two lakh defense
pensioners will be added to SPARSH.

• The average time for pension settlement


has decreased dramatically to just 16 days

• In the fiscal year 2021–2022, it was said that the SPARSH project has already enrolled one million
seniors and distributed 11,000 600 crore rupees.

SC appoints former judge Justice L Nageswara Rao for amending

• The Supreme court of India appointed
retired judge Justice L. Nageswar Rao for
amending the constitution of the Indian Olympic
Association and preparing the electoral college of
the association.

• Justice Rao will come up with a series of


recommendations for the amendment of the
constitution and help the body to hold its election
by 15 December 2022.

• A bench headed by Justice D Y Chandrachud said that Justice Rao will ensure a fair and development-
oriented approach for the future of the Olympics in India.

Indian Navy launches 2 Diving Support Vessels (Nistar & Nipun) in Vizag

• Two indigenously designed and built


Diving Support Vessels (DSVs), Nistar and
Nipun were launched by the Indian Navy
in Visakhapatnam.

• The vessels, built by Hindustan Shipyard


Ltd.

• They are the first of their kind ships to be


indigenously designed and built for the
Navy.

• The vessels, which are 118.4 metres long and 22.8 metres wide, will be deployed for deep sea diving
operations.

• IISc signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Indian Navy

• The Indian Government has inked a
Rs.1,700 crore contract with BrahMos
Aerospace Pvt Ltd for procuring BrahMos
missiles.

• The contract was signed by the Defence


Ministry to purchase 35 combat and 3 practice
BrahMos supersonic dual-role surface-to-
surface cruise missiles.

• The range of these missiles is 290 km


and they are capable of both land attacks and
anti-ship strikes.

• Their speed is 2.8 Mach, which is almost three times the speed of sound.

• These missiles will be equipped in two P-15B class stealth guided missile destroyers of the Indian Navy.

• BrahMos is the fastest supersonic missile and the fastest anti-ship cruise missile in the world.

• The supersonic cruise missiles travel at the speed of mach 1 to mach 5.

• The hypersonic cruise missiles travel at the speed higher than mach 5.

• Cruise missiles are capable of travelling at hypersonic, supersonic or high subsonic(M<1) speeds, are self-
navigating, and are able to fly on a non-ballistic, extremely low-altitude trajectory.

• It was developed by BrahMos Aerospace – a joint venture between DRDO and Russia’s NPO
Mashinostroyeniya.

• The missile was named after Brahmaputra river in India and Moskva river in Russia.

• In 2016, since India entered into the Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR), India and Russia
decided to develop a new generation of Brahmos missiles with a range of 400 km and then increase it to
600 km.

Project 15B

• Under Project 15B, four stealth-guided missile destroyers are being constructed at the cost of Rs.
29,643.74 crores.

• These destroyers are improved versions of Kolkata-class destroyers.

• These four vessels are named after major cities from all four corners of India.

• Visakhapatnam, Mormugao, Imphal, and Surat.

• While INS Visakhapatnam was commissioned in 2021, the rest were launched into the water.

• They were designed by the Indian Navy’s Directorate of Naval Design and constructed by the Mazagon
Dock Shipbuilders Limited in Mumbai.

• These vessels will be equipped with state-of-the-art weapons and sensors, including BrahMos and Barak-
8 surface-to-air missiles.

BrahMos Aerospace Pvt. Ltd.(BAPL)

• BAPL was established as a joint venture between Defence Research and Development Organization
(DRDO), India, and the Joint Stock Company “Military Industrial Consortium” of “NPO Mashinostroyenia”
(NPOM) [earlier known as Federal State Unitary Enterprise], Russia.The company is in charge of
designing, developing, manufacturing, and marketing the BRAHMOS supersonic cruise missile.

western Scotland.

• Elvis and his team clocked a timing of 14


hours 38 minutes to achieve this feat.
With this, Elvis has become the oldest Indian swimmer to cross the North Channel.

• The distance of the route recognized as a North Channel swim is 34.5 km (21.4 miles).
