INTENTION OF SUBMITTING DOCUMENTS FOR PROMOTION

I wish to inform my intention to submit my documents for your and the departmental
personnel committee’s evaluation for promotion this semester to the rank of FULL PROFESSOR.

I believe my preparation (PhD from Caribbean Linguistics Program at UPRRP; MA TESL -UPRRP;
BA Secondary Education in English -UPRRP) and my over twenty-three years of teaching
experience at the university level, secondary, jr. high school, and elementary level (including
three years teaching English to deaf students, and 1st generation high school students through
Upward Bound UPRRP and Abriendo Caminos, Canóvanas) qualify me for this promotion.

As part of my professional experience, I have published several articles in books and journals
and presented at various conferences and symposia representing our University in the US,
Santa Marta (Colombia) Kowloon (Hong Kong), Warsaw (Poland), Koln (Germany), Sao Paulo
(Brazil), Cayenne (French Guiana), Georgetown (Guyana), Puerto Rico and the Caribbean (St.
Thomas, St. Croix, Barbados, Grenada, Dominica, St. Maarten, Aruba, Curacao, Cuba) regarding
topics of Sociolinguistics; Applied Linguistics; Pidgin and Creole Languages; Plurilingualism; and
ESL and EFL. I have also collaborated with College Board’s committees of PEAU, ELASH, PIENSE,
PCMA, and Advanced Level for many years as well as serving as judge, translator, and peer
reviewer in other academic institutions and the community at large.

I have served in our institution as a member of the English Department Faculty, member of the
Academic Senate, Coordinator of the Night Studies Program, Director of Continuing Education
and Professional Studies, and Associate Dean of Academic Affairs; I have been liaison of the
Faculty Resource Network with NYU, and of the Leadership Alliance, and I have mentored
various student associations.
