Assignment Overview

This assignment is designed to enable you to present your findings from assignment 1 in the form of a
poster.

This assignment has been designed to provide you with an opportunity to demonstrate your
achievement of the following module learning outcomes:

LO 1 Demonstrate an ability to undertake a project involving plan, execute, analyse findings, and draw
conclusions for an investigation with specified aims and objectives identified.

LO 2 Use information collected from a range of sources and use of appropriate methods to address the
stated aims and objectives of the investigation

LO 3 Develop and demonstrate academic writing and communication skills to present the project in
written and visual formats.

Assignment Task and Requirements

WHAT ARE YOU ASKED TO DO?

Building on the research you have carried out in assignment 1, design a poster that informsus
about your business idea.
This task will require you to:

1. Use the same business idea that you discussed in Assignment One.
2. Download the Power Point template found on Moodle.
3. Present the data and information collected from your research for Assignment One following
subheadings presented below. Use graphs, tables, maps, logos, images, numbers, bullet points
and short texts to equivalent of 1,500 words.
4. Submit your poster electronically. No presentation is required.
5. Only use resources outlined in the reading list.

Assignment Guide and Format

Your poster needs to include the following sub-headings:


 Business Overview (150Words).

o Briefly describe your business idea.

 Market Trends (100 Words).

o Identify market trend(s) that are relative to your business idea (for example, people now
prefer healthier food, self-checkouts, or delivery options, etc.)
 Competitors (150Words).

o Identify your main competitors (direct or indirect). Include a map of the location of your
business and mark where your main competitors are.
 Suppliers (150Words).

o Identify your suppliers (where you will purchase the inventory needed to produce your
product/service offering).
 Target clientele(100Words).

o Identify and describe your target clients, what they like doing, their approximate age and
income, life style, and other important demographics.
 Industry Analysis (200Words).

o Describe the size of the industry your business belongs to, its characteristics, its future
potential. Use graphs, bullet points, key numbers, and images.
 SWOT Analysis (150Words).

o Using a table, identify strengths and weaknesses of your business (internal) and
opportunities and threats (external).
 Marketing Mix (150Words).

o Using a table, identify and describe the Four P’s of Marketing (this is called Marketing Mix)
for your business: Product, Price, Place (Location or Distribution) and Promotion
(advertising).
 Digital Applications / Business Software (100Words).

o Research and identify the business software and applications you will need to run your
business (for example, to collect payments or to prepare invoices). You may include the
price or subscription fees, their advantages, or key features.
 Financial Aspects (150Words).

o Include onefinancial aspect of your choice: initial investment numbers (facilities,


equipment, supply costs), pro-forma income statement, estimates of sales; sources of

financing, working capital, ratios, breakeven point, etc). Use graphs, tables, key numbers,
or other visuals.
 Conclusion (100 Words).

o Summarize your findings and explain why you think that your project will be successful.

How your work will be assessed

Your work will be assessed on the extent to which it demonstrates your achievement of the stated
learning outcomes for this assignment (see above) and against other key criteria, like content, design
and layout, and graphics, as defined in the University’s institutional grading descriptors. If it is
appropriate to the format of your assignment and your subject area, a proportion of your marks will also
depend upon your use of academic referencing conventions.

This assignment will be marked according to the grading descriptors for Level 0

Submission details

This assignment should be submitted electronically via Moodle (module tutors will discuss this process
with you during class time).

 Please ensure that your work has been saved in an appropriate file format (Microsoft Word, Excel
or PowerPoint, or PDF are the most widely used; Google Docs is also accepted). Your file must
also contain at least 20 words of text, consist of fewer than 400 pages and be less than 40MB in

size.

 You can submit your work as many times as you like before the submission date. If you do submit
your work more than once, your earlier submission will be replaced by the most recent version.

 Once you have submitted your work, you will receive a digital receipt as proof of submission,
which will be sent to your forwarded e-mail address (provided you have set this up). Please keep
this receipt for future reference, along with the original electronic copy of your assignment
