Oral Communication in Context Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan

Grade II-Senior High School


I. Learning Objectives: At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
a. distinguish distinct speech from each other;
b. write an example of distinct speeches’ purpose in certain situations; and
c. determine the specific use of informative , entertainment and persuasive speech.
II. Subject Matter:
A. Topic: Types of Speech according to Purpose
Sub-Topics: Types of Speech According Delivery
B. MELC: Distinguishes types of speeches and speech styles.
C. Values Integration: Expressing oneself through oral communication in solving gender
issues
D. Reference: Oral Communication in Context for Senior High School Learner’s Material,
pages 80-81
E. Materials: Pictures, Words Strips, Laptop and Smart TV
III. Procedure:
A. Preliminary of the lesson:
1. Prayer
2. Checking of the attendance
3. Classroom Rules
4. Review of the Past Lesson
5. Motivation:

-The students will be shown 3 types of pictures.

-The teacher will ask a question about each picture to be answered by the students.

Analysis

1. I know most of you here knew and fans of her(DARNA)right? Who is she? In what
Teleserye we can watch her? As a fan or as fans of this teleserye, how it amuses the
audience? Can you recall those scenes that made you hook with?

2. What is shown in picture no. 2? Are we experiencing this kind of issue right now? As
students, how will you convince or encourage your co-students and all the people to have a
proper waste disposal for us to regulate this kind of problem?
3. What have you seen in the 3rd picture class? Do you have that one? Are you
enjoying of using it? What do you know about it?How does it affect pollution? How/Why is it
related to mining? State your ideas.

Activity

-The students will watch videos about speeches . (How Sleep Affects our Brain, Taylor
Swift Message on NYU Graduation Day and Nick Vujicic Inspiring or Motivational Speech)
-Then, they will have to examine the speeches according to their purpose.

An Informative Speech - provides the audience with a clear understanding of a


concept or idea.

Ex. The lectures of your teachers are the best examples of this type.

An entertainment speech - amuses the audience. The humorous speeches of


comedians and performers are the best examples of this type.

A persuasive speech - seeks to provide the audience with favorable or acceptable


ideas that can influence their own ideas and decisions.

Ex. The campaign speeches of the running candidates for government


posts are the best examples of this type.

Application:
Small Group Work.
1. The class will be divided into 7 groups.
2. Each group will write a speech according to their choice and cultural orientation.
3. They may also choose from the topics given below.
-Teenage pregnancy
-Cyber Bullying Among Students
-Importance of Mental Health
-Miriam D. Santiago, Queen of Pick-up lines

4. Each group should tell what type of speech according to purpose


They have applied in their written speech.

5. Each must have a representative to report their work in front of the class.

6. Rubric for Checking:

Content - 10 pts.
Grammar - 5 pts.
Speech Appropriateness - 5pts.

IV. Evaluation: Determine each scenario if it is informative, entertainment and persuasive speech.
Write your answer on a 1/4 sheet.

V.Assignment:

In a 1 whole sheet, write a short speech as your reaction regarding with the selection
stated below on how to address gender issues. After which, identify what type of speech
being applied on it. You can research on the internet or book in order to support your ideas.
(At least 50-80 words)
Nevertheless, in many of the modern societies today, there is no need for traditional gender roles,
because both men and women are able to do many of the same necessary tasks, thereby making
gender-specific behaviors irrelevant. These stereotypes can be harmful because they motivate people
to condemn and oppress those who do not fit the traditional gender roles. As a result of this oppression,
many people struggle to reach their full potential. Therefore, it is critical that we encourage everyone to
follow and express their own truth, regardless the gender norms, so that everyone is able to contribute
fully to our society.
