Children with Disabilities
Available data at the National Council for the Welfare of Disabled

Persons reveal the following:
1. one out of five children in the 0-6 age group has some form of
disability or impairment
2. children in the 15-19 age group have the highest disability
prevalence rate per 100,000 population
3. hearing and visual impairment and difficulty in moving are the
most prevalent forms of disability among children
4. there are more boys with conditions of disability than girls
5. children with disabilities generally belong to poor families

Children in Need of
Special Protection 1. children victims of natural disasters such as
typhoons, floods, earthquakes, and volcanic
eruptions
2. children without parental care or deprived of a
family environment, including the children of
OFWs
3. children affected by HIV/AIDS
4. below 18 years old, or those 18 years old and
over but are unable to take care of themselves
because of physical or mental disability condition
