Title: Let’s explore elementary children’s world_____

What is the inquiry question that interests you for further research? It should be a question that connects with a
purpose, passion, or personalized area of interest for you. This is a question that you cannot just google an

My inquiry question is:

What can I do to communicate with children well and help them?

How can I mentor younger students to improve their confidence and self-esteem?
How can people help children not to be stressed?
What can I create that will impact my community?

Rationale/context: Detail your reasons for choosing this inquiry question. Explain WHY you are choosing to
investigate this topic as a major area of focus. How does this area of inquiry connect to your passion(s), and
purpose? Why is it of personal interest to you?

I personally am interested in and like elementary children. To be specific, this is because I want to know
what kind of thoughts and values children usually live with and what problems they are having these days
and help them solve their matter. Furthermore, elementary children have endless possibilities, so I thought
it was one of the most valuable things to do to help them grow up well. By helping children grow up, I think I
can learn and gain enlightenment that I also didn't know.

Background: What background knowledge/connections/prior learning do you have in this area of inquiry?

1. Today's elementary children are living in an environment that is more difficult to get a job than
before. For example, entering a good university does not guarantee success. Even some children
seem to have no goals.
2. Nowadays, as electronic technology is developed, elementary children live in a society where the
Internet is active. They can communicate, get information, and spend their free time on the Internet.
3. Elementary children's imagination and creativity are superior to adults.

Career connections: What is your intended career area at this point? What connections does this inquiry
question have to your life, academic, and/ or career goals?

After graduating high school, I hope to be a personal tutor who helps elementary children learn math in

 Canada. Not just teach them, but I want to communicate and help them by listening to their thoughts and
concerns. Also, I want to help them avoid math becoming a hated subject and encourage them not to get
stressed in not only math but also their school life.

Interdisciplinary and core competencies connections: What subject areas and core competencies will
be connected with your project? Outline and explain the connections.

My subject area is service-oriented, especially in helping elementary children and the main core
competency in this subject is social responsibility, especially in building relationships. I can connect and
engage effectively with children by listening to them and respecting their individuality and personality. The
other core competency is creative thinking. Especially in generating novelty and value. I should be able to
create new and unique ideas to help elementary children, such as making an interesting and useful game.
It is because many elementary children are energetic, and pursue fun and interesting activities instead of
just sitting on a chair for a long time. Also, I can be familiar with children with creative and fun activities. So,
it is important to make a creative and new idea that many elementary children like.

I will select an electronic portfolio (PPT) and Website. The website will mainly be used to obtain the
information I need and to obtain objective evidence such as statistics. PPT is mainly utilized to summarize
the information I get in my words and use it as a device that can make listeners understand my words in
detail and accurately.

I chose the service-oriented strand for my capstone project. The main focus of this strand is to
investigate various issues that can have an impact on their community to develop and implement a
solution. Along with many topics related to this strand, I decided to focus on the elementary children in
the community. The reason why I chose this is that personally, I am interested in and like elementary
children. Specifically, this is because I want to know what thoughts and values elementary children
usually live with, what problems they are experiencing these days, and help them solve problems.
Furthermore, because elementary children have infinite potential, I thought it was one of the most
valuable things to do to help them develop well. Plus, this work is connected with my future career.
After graduating from high school, I want to be a tutor who helps elementary children learn math in
Canada. I want to communicate and help them not only by helping them teach but also by listening to
their thoughts and concerns. Also, I want to help math not to be a hated subject and encourage them

 not to be stressed not only in math but also in school. Next, I want to talk about my plan to process this
project. The first step of this work is to investigate an issue and its importance. I will mainly
concentrate on elementary children’s lives today, including the problems or concerns that elementary
children have today and how to solve them effectively. The next step is asking specific questions about
my topic. For instance, what are the disadvantages of children using the internet for a long time? Or
what can cause elementary children’s anxiety and low self-esteem? After that, I will research and
answer the question and identify some solutions in detail. I will summarize the knowledge with some
key points of the contents with PPT. For instance, If I suppose I research problems related to the
internet, I will summarize them like this. Using a cell phone for a long time can make the development
of the brain of children stunted, and even can cause a loss of confidence or interest in other activities.
To prevent this, parents should warn children about the danger of using smartphones. Also, to help
viewers to get more knowledge, I will prepare objective evidence or resources to make my project to
be more credible. Plus, Interesting and thought-provoking questions that ask for personal opinions,
such as “Do you think is it right for children to have their smartphone?” will also be included in the
project. Lastly, I will contain some other knowledge or considerations related to my subject. One of the
pieces of information that I will include is the point of view of adults on elementary children. To be
specific, I feel it is helpful to investigate Parents' worries about their children or the strengths and
weaknesses of today's elementary children that adults think. The other one is about elementary child
counselors. It will include what they usually do, how they can become elementary child counselors,
how much money they earn in a year, and so on. These are the steps and my plan for this project. But,
to finish my work well, there are some things that I need. For this work, I need a mentor like a child
counselor or an elementary school teacher. An elementary child counselor is a person who specializes
in studying children's psychology and concerns, and through this, professional and detailed knowledge
can be obtained. School teachers can listen and observe elementary children's behavior and thoughts
every day at school, so their information can be professional. To get help from them, I can contact them
via email or social networking services. Also, I can make an appointment with them and visit them if
they are near me. The help of these experts can help me improve the quality of my project. Skills
needed in this field are also indispensable. Communication skills are the most important because I. In
addition, the ability to work well with others and cope with the situation is important because
elementary children sometimes have difficulty controlling it. However, whatever we do or plan in
detail, some variables or obstacles can prevent us. In this project, I think it can be difficult to get
information through websites or experts, which can be linked to a waste of time. For example, I want to
make an appointment with an elementary child counselor, but he may be too busy to make an
appointment, or I can get the information I don't want even though I searched the Internet. In addition,
if I am not careful, I may discover unproven or incorrect knowledge. These are the things I must be
careful about. These are all descriptions of my project.

For this project, I need some skills and resources. One of the skills is communication skills. Basically,
when I help elementary children, I should listen to what they need or want well and fill in them. Further, It
is important to manage children and cope with unexpected situations because sometimes they are hard to
control, and they can make unexpected happen or accidents. Except for these skills, to get closer to

 elementary children, I should learn the ability to cooperate with them effectively. The resources can be
also helpful for me. It's a good option to go to a specialist or specialized institution. I can get detailed
information about the children by talking to them. Actually, I lived in Langley, so I'm planning to go to an
elementary school in Langley State or a child-related institution and make an appointment with an expert
to get professional knowledge related to elementary children, such as problems of elementary children
today and solutions about them.

help you complete your capstone project? How will your mentor(s) help you? What is your plan to access
the mentorship/community connections necessary for this project?

I need a mentor like an elementary child counselor or elementary school teacher. It is because child
counselors are people who specialize in studying children's psychology and worries, they can gain
professional and detailed knowledge through them, and elementary teachers can help me because they
can listen to and observe elementary children's behavior and worries at school every day. To get help
from them, I can contact them through e-mail or social network services. Also, I can make an appointment
with them and visit them If they're near me.

Project limitations: What are some project limitations and potential obstacles that you foresee that might
affect progress with your Capstone Project?

Sometimes, in the process of gaining information through the internet or other resources, I can struggle to
get what I need, and this can be connected with a waste of time. Furthermore, If I don’t be careful, I can
find unprofessional knowledge which is not proven yet such as personal vlogs. For instance, when I
search statistics on the average number of hours children use their cell phones a day, I can get general
information about problems of using the internet, not statistics that I need. The information that the
internet gives is related to my topic, but not what I need in this case, or I can find the statistic which is
hard to know its sources. Consequently, these can decline the quality and credibility of my project.
