Chapter 1

INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background of the Study

The world is currently confronted with major energy issues. With the

pressure on, there is a strong desire to move, because of limited resources and

concerns about global climate change, away from fossil-fuel-based economies and

towards a more sustainable energy supply with renewable power at its core.

Phones, televisions, lighting, the internet, and even cooking and refrigerators are

all dependent on electricity. Sharma N. claims that in 2019, electricity will play a

significant role in our lives, as it is the greatest scientific discovery. Electricity is a

type of energy that everyone requires in their daily lives. Consider a life without

electricity, as our contemporary luxuries are powered by it.

Electricity, on the other hand, is expensive and costly, especially for people

living on small islands, who are vulnerable in this regard due to their geographic

location, which severely limits the possibility of connecting to a larger supply of

power, despite people paying more attention to power consumption and their

geographic location. Particularly at such a distant location, there has been an

increasing interest in employing an alternative and renewable energy source.

The term alternative refers to any energy other than the conventional

energy. Renewable energy sources contribute significantly to society and the long-

1
term viability of power. It improves the majority of the population's access to energy

while simultaneously lowering local and pollution emissions.
