VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND GIRLS IN AND THROUGH MEDIA
People nowadays are constantly bombarded with information especially in the
rapid technological change. The vast majority of information seen or heard is the result of someone directing it to the masses. This thought leads me to the question of how our society perpetuates violence against women through the media and how it is important to address these properly. As a woman I have seen and experienced of how unimportant our society view women in general. On a social media app, there was a post about a raped girl that was later turned into a hashtag and mocked. This post demonstrate how seriously violence against women is taken and in consideration. For all we know media has the power to influence, so it is just right for it to be a platform that influence content, and not to be used as mockery for women. Every day, all forms of media have an impact on billions of people. The media wields enormous power over society, and it is past time to change that, particularly when it comes to the media's portrayal of women. That is why upon learning these ten essentials to address violence against women and girls in and through media is a bold step towards ending violence against women. Promoting gender equality, diversity and respect which encourage inclusivity and value women and men as equal that certainly would lead us in economic prosperity. Monitoring and improving content, to strengthen understanding around the many multi-layered factors underlying violence against women and women’s experiences with such violence. And lastly, partner for change which generates networks that advocate change. Different organizations, countries and groups of people who promote women's empowerment and improve the living conditions of women and girls all have different promising practices which are significant in creating a safe space for the victims, supporting them and creating laws that can protect them. These are just a few change that the society is doing to know that all women and victims of abuse are not alone. To summarize what have been said, it is critical to remember that violence against women is a human issue, not just a female issue. We must band together to combat this and ensure that every woman in our society is treated with dignity and respect. Let us all be educated and take action in this issue that’s often overlooked but still affects millions of women every year.
