Extender (wireless repeater) mode enables you to connect a non-NETGEAR router to

your Nighthawk router in order to extend your WiFi coverage. The non-NETGEAR router
repeats your existing WiFi signal instead of broadcasting a new one.

You can also use your Nighthawk router as an extender and a non-NETGEAR router as
your main router.

Note: If you set up your Netgear router as an extender (wireless repeater),

important routing functions like network traffic management are not active. We
recommend using your Netgear router as your main router and purchasing an extender
to increase your WiFi coverage.

Note: Use a wired Ethernet connection during setup to avoid interfering with your
wireless connection.

To enable the extender mode feature on your Nighthawk router:

Launch an Internet browser from a computer or wireless device that is connected to

your Nighthawk routers wireless network.
Visit http://www.routerlogin.net. If http://www.routerlogin.net does not work, try
the following:
http://www.routerlogin.com
http://192.168.1.1
http://192.168.0.1
http://10.0.0.1
3. Enter your user name and password.
The default user name is admin. The default password is password.
Note: The user name and password are case-sensitive.
The BASIC page displays.
4. Select Wireless and verify that the wireless settings of your Nighthawk router
are correct.
5. Before enabling extender mode, Security Options must be set to None.
6. Click the ADVANCED tab.
7. Select Advanced Setup > Router/AP/Bridge/Repeating Mode.
8. Select Enable Wireless Repeating Function for the 2.4GHz or 5GHz WiFi band.
For more information, see What is the difference between 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz wireless
frequencies?.
9. Select the radio button for Wireless Repeater.
10. In the Repeater IP Address field, type the IP address of the router that you
want to make the extender.
Note: Your routers IP address is usually listed on a sticker located on your
router. The last octet of the extender routers IP address must be different than
your main routers IP address. For example, if your main routers IP address is
192.168.1.1, your repeating router should have an IP address like 192.168.1.75.
For more information, see What is an IP address?.
11. (Optional) If you dont want to use your extender router for WiFi, only for
wired Ethernet connections, select Disable Wireless Client Association.
For example, you might choose this option if you are only setting up the extender
to connect a wired printer, television, or other device to your network.
12. In the Base Station MAC Address field, enter the MAC address of your Nighthawk
router.
Your routers MAC address is on a sticker located on the back or bottom of your
router.
13. Click Apply.
Your Nighthawk router is now in extender mode.
