local cooperative
This issue of the World Cooperative Monitor collates data for 4,575 cooperatives and mutuals
(1,152 from Europe, 3,218 from the Americas, 197 from Asia-Pacific, and 8 from Africa) from 10 different
sectors. The ranking shown in the Table is based on the total turnover of the cooperative in USD and
the data collected were based on their 2017 financial data.
The Credit Agricole Group from France is in the first place, the same in the previous year.
The Credit Agricole Group is a
retail bank because they continue to
rely on the strength of their local
network and adapt to changes in
customer trends. They provide
straightforward, independent
advice, offering both the best digital
services and the expertise of their
customer’s own personal advisor.
Their business lines put them right at the heart of the lives and projects of their customers and
of society as a whole, which bestows upon them great responsibility. They make sure the value they
create is shared fairly and sustainably with their customers, members, shareholders, employees and
partners.
With the use of the OpenText specifically the OpenText Documentum and OpenText Archiving
Platform which are both utilized in the Cooperative’s financial services, the credit Agricole group can
accelerate compliance by archiving 8 billion transactions annually. With the use of OpenText, they
securely manage 8B transactions every year, locate and retrieve specific data among billions of records
in seconds, have fast deployment and are highly cost-effective, and capture both structured and
unstructured data.
According to Gregoire Lundi, the manager of the Card and Payments Department, “ they must
comply with a regulatory requirement. With the OpenText archiving platform, they can manage
massive data volumes and meet all security standards because they use a highly secure, in-house
archiving solution”.
L Mr. Lundi also added, that “they beat all competitors by demonstrating that archiving
latform was not only more effective, but it had a less expensive cost per archived gigabyte of data than any
ther option, including external options”.
NATIONAL COOPERATIVE SUCCESS STORY
The successful national cooperative highlighted in this report is the top 1 cooperative
out of the top 20 successful cooperatives in the Philippines published by the Grit PH when they
have their updates last August 22, 2022.
The ranking shown in the Table below is based on their asset size as of September 2019. These
cooperatives are with total assets reaching billions of pesos, which is why the CDA or Cooperative
Development Authority called them billionaire cooperatives.
ACDI Multi-Purpose
Cooperative started their
operations as a credit cooperative
in 1982.
Originally it is a Cooperative of the Air Force pilots, by the Air Force pilots, and for the Air Force
pilots. Their intent was to serve the entire Armed Forces of the Philippines.
From a budding Cooperative, they were able to transform ACDI MPC into the Largest
Multipurpose Cooperative.
For Agriculture they have Food Security and Livelihood. They have vegetable farming, Dairy
Production, and Poultry Breeding at Agri Farm at Ibaan, Batangas. Consumer Services they have
Food and Basic Commodities available at their convenience store named RAMKING. Education they
have Aviation Training Education at Leading Edge International Aviation Academy, Inc. Loans they
have several types of loans available. Insurance Services they have Life and Property Security. Their
Coop Assurance Division is in partnership with CISP (Cooperative Insurance System of the Philippines)
and CLIMBS Life and General Insurance Cooperative. In Health they have Coop Health Management
Federation. Air Transportation they have Air Chartering Transformation by Leading Edge Air Services
Corporation. And for their Construction Services they have Joint Venture with Seabees and Engineer
Retirees General Services Cooperative.
It was formally organized on May 2, 1996, when some officials and employees of the National
and Local Government Unit of Labason gathered to organize a cooperative which was named
LABASON OFFICIALS AND EMPLOYEES MULTI-PURPOSE COOPERATIVE.
The cooperative secured accreditation from the Land Bank of the Philippines to avail of
additional capital to meet members’ needs. The said
bank granted a 1 Million credit line in its re-
discounting program. Members can avail of loans as
much as their net take-home pay warrants. Capital
for the grocery business was also increased. Aside
from regular loans, members can also avail
themselves of emergency and petty cash loans.
With the cooperative efforts from its highly competent Board of Directors & different
committee members, efficient management staff, and very supportive members, the LABASON
MULTIPURPOSE COOPERATIVE is now in the LARGE Category as depicted in the picture below.
So, those are some of the successful cooperatives, in our locality – we have the Labason MPC,
in our country Philippines- we have the ACDI MPC, and in the world-the Credit Agricole Group.
I believe the significance of these success stories to everyone is that they can accelerate our
CHANGE CAPABILITY because success stories offer tremendous opportunities for us to learn from other
change leaders. The decisions they made and actions they took to achieve successful change outcomes
can enlighten our creativity, strategies, and approaches, and streamline our efforts.
