You are invited to take part in this research project, which will be submitted for the
degree of Architectural Technology at Leeds Beckett University. Prior to consenting
to this invitation, please read this Participant Information Sheet outlining a general
overview of the project and raise any questions or concerns with myself (Hussain

5. What is the purpose of the research?

The aim of the research is to develop the strategies of embedding inclusive design in
to architectural practices.

The objectives of this research are, therefore:

1. To create a proper extension to a semi-detached and mid-terrace house that
is functional, fire-safe, and livable.
2. We intend to add a two-story side extension to the semi-detached house,a
rear extension and a porch in front of the house.
3. We will be adding a basement extension, a dorm, and a rear extension to the
mid-terrace house.
4. All this will be designed according to the questionnaire, using Revit and
AutoCAD.
The following research questions are, therefore:
1. Do you have the clear idea of the overall budget of the construction?

2. In terms of the design or construction project, what are your basic

requirements? (Do you require any additional bedrooms, bathrooms, or
storage space or garage in the expanded area?)
3. What is your favourite leisure activity, and where do you enjoy it?
4. Are there any special landscaping requirements or important design features
that you would like to have? (For example, do you require natural light, or
would you like an open space?)
5. Is there a specific architectural style that you prefer, or would you like to know
more about it?
6. Do you have any sustainable goals (energy efficiency, alternative energy,
such as solar and wind power)?
7. Which materials do you prefer (e.g., any specific type of tiles or flooring)?
8. If necessary, will you be able to relocate during the construction period?
9. If there are any specific requirements from your side for the extension, which
you would like us to take into consideration in the design of the extension,
please let us know.

6. Why have I been chosen?

A major objective of this research paper is to compile the opinions of industry professionals within
the Built Environment in the United Kingdom. As a participant in this research, you will bring your
expertise and experience to the compilation of exploratory research, which will include the
collection of personal experiences, opinion, and motives .

7. What’s next? What do I need to do to take part?

In the course of the survey, you will be required to answer a series of voluntary questions concerning
the extension of a semi-detached house and a mid-terrace house. Based on your availability and
schedule, the responses will be captured via an online form. We greatly appreciate your
participation.

8. What are the possible disadvantages and risks of taking part?

There are no foreseeable risks associated with taking part in this research and it is
not anticipated to cause you any disadvantage or inconvenience.

9. What if I change my mind?

If you are to have any concerns about the research being undertaken in this project,
you must contact the author in the first instance to handle any complaints at the

10. Will my taking part in this project be kept confidential?

Your participation in this research will be kept confidential. Any data collected will be
stored online, password protected and only accessible by the author and
supervisors. Data collection of individual members will remain anonymous (i.e. your
name and contact details). You may at any point request to withdraw your
participation from this research. The process for this is to write an email stating your
request to withdraw to h.dodia4427@student.leeds.beckett.ac.uk

11. What will happen to the results of the research project?

Results of the research will be used as part of the degree of Architectural
technology, potential research papers and journal articles.
