TU-K’s PRESIDENT SPEECH DURING THE PRESIDENTAL VISIT.

The technical university president Mr Kirera Muchoki yesterday had a chance to speak to the president
of Kenya H.E Mr William Ruto during his visit to the institution to open up the newly constructed S –
block. Mr Muchoki left the president happy after his speech which led to him calling him “Mr president”.
During his speech he thanked the president for visiting the institution and then went ahead with the
important issues raised by the students of the technical university. Mr Muchoki spoke more about the
unemployment challenge being faced by qualified youths in the country. He said that we had qualified
students with talents in the country but they lack a platform that they may put their talents and abilities
to use, this led to a big applause from the students. The president said they are working towards
creating more jobs for the youth through innovation and invention in the technological field. Mr
Muchoki also emphasized much on security problems in the city that has led to many university student
being robbed or killed in Broadway lights. However he congratulated the president efforts to cub the
situation and bringing a sense of normality in the city. He also pleaded with president to allocate funds
to be able to build new hostels for the institution since the ones that the institution has are not enough
to cater for a large a number of students and that many students stayed in the city where they pay rent
as normal tenants which is expensive and are also faced with the challenge of muggings within the city.
In his last speech Mr Muchoki spoke about the need to open up the student centre which cannot
surstain the 17,000 students that the institution has. He said the student centre was built long ago since
the time the institution was a polytechnic and was built to serve a small number of student. In his
speech Mr Muchoki said that the institution has a master plan to open up the centre but the funds for
the project are not enough.
