INSTALLATION PROCEDURE (Pictorial guide)

1. Insert the disk into the DVD drive on your computer, the Autorun screen displays.

2. If this screen does not display, Open My Computer/ This PC.


3. Double-click on the DVD drive and if a warning message appears click on the Yes button to continue. Or double
click ebook-reader-setup application.

Note: Administrative rights are not required for the installation. However, if the installation fails because your machine is completely
locked-down, please contact your company’s IT department, or your IT administrator, for advice on this.

4. The eBook Reader starts to install.


5. The following installation screens are common to installation from disk and from download. The InstallShield
Wizard screen displays.

6. Click on the Next button and the End User License Agreement screen displays.
7. It is suggested that you should let the eBook Reader install to the default locations, but they can be changed
from here if that is what is required. Once you are happy with the settings click on the Next button and the
Ready to Install screen displays.

8. Click on the Install button to start the installation. The installation progress screen displays.

9. When the eBook Reader is fully installed the following screens display

10. Now you should click on the Finish button to complete the installation.

Upon opening the installed software, the following home screen can be seen.

(NB: - you may view certain eBook titles within the software based on which has been preloaded in the DVD, if there are no ebk files during
installation no titles can be viewed)

System Requirements:

• Windows XP SP2/SP3 / Windows Vista / Windows 7 / Windows 8, 8.1 and 8.1 update (except RT Tablets) / Windows
10 Operating System (32-bit or 64-bit).
• Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0, 3.0, 3.5, 4, 4.5 or 4.6 (always preinstalled, except on Windows XP where .NET 2.0 must
be installed manually first in the unlikely situation where it is not installed already).
• Hard Disc space required by the program: approximately 100 MB + 5 MB per eBook (on average).
• Minimum 1024x 768 resolution.
• CD/DVD drive (only to install the program). Note that the content of the CD/DVD can be transferred to another media
like a USB memory stick for installation on laptops without disc drive (just make sure to select all the files, including
the hidden files).

1) Insert the CD/DVD-Rom into the disc drive.


If the installation program does not begin automatically after a few seconds, follow these steps to start it
• Double-click on the My Computer/Computer icon.
• Double-click on the CD/DVD-Rom icon or right-click on it and choose the menu ‘Open’.
• Double-click on SETUP.EXE

2) Once the installation program starts, it will check for some necessary software on your PC.

• Press Next at the Welcome screen.


• Check the box "I accept the terms in the License Agreement" and press Next.
• Press Next at the Destination Folder screen to install the program in C:\Program Files\Seamanship E-book
Reader\. This is the default folder with Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7-8-10 if you have full
administrative rights on your PC.
On 64-bit Operating Systems C:\Program Files (X86) is used instead.
If you have Windows Vista / Windows 7-8-10 without admin rights then the default folder is changed
to C:\Apps\Seamanship E-book Reader\.
You can modify this default installation directory if you wish but write access to the folder is required.
• Press Install at the Ready to Install eBookReader v5 screen.
• Wait while the program files copy (Installing eBookReader v5)
• After the eBook Reader program is installed, the eBooks installation/update starts automatically (eBook
Installer).
Press OK when completed.
• Press Finish at the Completed the eBookReader v5 Setup Wizard screen.

3) Once the eBooks are installed, remove the CD/DVD-Rom from the drive (or the memory stick from the USB
port). The CD/DVD/USB stick are not required to run the program.

4) Start the program either by double-clicking on the icon 'eBook Reader' on the desktop or from the Start Menu
('eBook Reader').

5) Before you can use an eBook for the first time you must obtain an unlock code from Witherby Publishing
Group Ltd. Follow the on-screen instructions on how to unlock the eBooks.
The licence code begins with READ-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX. Free eBooks do not require unlocking.

IMPORT EBK FILE FOR USERS WITHOUT INTERNET (via DVD/USB)

1. Once the eReader software is successfully installed on a standalone computer, user will be required to import the
“.ebk” files into the software. User could either load all ebk files from DVD/USB or only certain files based on their
requirement and HDD space.

2. Use the ‘Import E-Book’ function key and it will open the Import eBook dialog screen window. Change the
default option from ‘’Download and Install from Internet’’ to ‘Install from EBK files already on your hard drive’.

3. On the left window, direct to ebk file folder on your CD/DVD path or saved folder. This will load the titles on right
window. You can either select all or select individual files to be loaded to your system Tick the box and enter OK.

(NB: Green – Already installed, White – Not onboard, ready to install, Red – New Edition out and already installed on the system, the DVD
contains old edition data for those ebk file

4. Once imported, you will now able to view the front cover of the titles but under locked status.

NB: User will require the latest version/edition of .ebk file for new edition/publications available and imported before unlocking the same.
If you’re customer subscribed to any Annual Flag State Regulations, you can also import the bimonthly update file similar way.

EBOOK UNLOCK PROCEDURE FOR USERS WITHOUT INTERNET (via email)

1. Select icon “unlock multiple eBooks” within the Bookshelf software.

2. Kindly confirm all required publications with the correct edition is available within the list to unlock.

3. Select/ Tick either using the product description or product code

4. Once selected, click on Unlock icon.
There are various options available for unlocking your product. If you do not have internet access,
use the email option to send your request to the UNLOCK SERVER.

5. Enter the fields as required.

(NB: You need to enter all mandatory fields in blue. Enter the ‘License Code’ details which had been send by GNS by email. This is a
READ Code provided).
6. Once the correct information is entered, proceed to “Send the email” tab key which will automatically send to
unlock.server@emailws.com from the same computer, having an email connection.

(NB: Do not add/ edit any comments to the body and subject of the email).
7. Once you have received the auto reply email containing the unlock code, you will need to enter it on the red
font box and click “UNLOCK” before you are able to access the purchased e-book contents.

1. User will require the update “.xml” and “.pdf” file to be sent via email in zip format. Request GNS Customer
Service customerservices@gnsworldwide.com for the same. Alternatively, the latest available update files can
be found within the GNS eBook Library DVD (OTH 1127).
2. Once received, this file should be saved to a folder on the computer.
3. Open e-reader > Internet Updates and choose “Available Updates - Last checked dated______" tab.
4. Click on the "Import email update".
5. Direct the location of the above email update file that you have saved. This will automatically import the update
to your e-reader.
6. Now select the 'Downloaded Updates' folder and you will notice the available supplement would have been
imported with the respective title annotation. Double click on the latest supplement to view the text contents.

DOWNLOAD & INSTALL EBOOK READER SOFTWARE FOR USERS WITH INTERNET

You can install the eBook Reader application by downloading it from the internet or installing it directly from a disk. The
main differences between these methods are in the manner in which the installation starts.

1. Download the software from http://www.witherbydigital.com or


http://vp.imo.org/Public/EBK/ebook-reader-setup.exe
Alternatively, you can also download the latest version from GNS ftp link provided in Notes below.
2. The application downloads as a file named InstalReader.exe or ebook-reader-setup.exe
3. Navigate to this file on your computer, double-click on it, and a security screen displays.

4. Click on the Run button and the application starts to install.

5. Once the application is downloaded, please see guide on “Installing the eBook Reader” section and follow
as required.

1. Use the ‘Import E-Book’ function key and it will open the Import eBook dialog screen window. The default
option from ‘’Download and Install from Internet’’ is to be used.

2. Enter your license code READ-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX as shown and then click on, Download, Install, Unlock
button.
3. Follow any on-screen prompts.
4. Your eBook will then start to download in a queue.

5. Once the download is complete, you are presented with a screen showing the download and install process as
complete.

6. Click on the OK button to go to the unlock page, and unlock the eBooks as described below.

NB: User will require the latest version/edition of .ebk file for new edition/publications available and imported before unlocking the same.
If you’re customer subscribed to any Annual Flag State Regulations, you can also import the bimonthly update file similar way.

7. Enter your READ code READ-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX into the Licence code box.
8. Enter your email address into the E-mail address box.
9. Click on the UNLOCK button. The unlock process starts.
10. When the eBooks have been unlocked, the eBook reader closes and then re-opens at the cover page of the last
eBook on the list.

IMO SUPPLEMENT UPDATE PROCEDURE FOR USERS WITH INTERNET

1. Open e-reader > Internet Updates function and choose the "Available Updates - Last checked dated______" tab.
2. Click on the "Check for Content Update".

3. A pop up appears “Do you wish to check for updates now?” Select “Yes”. This will download the latest updates.
Note: A pop up “Your internet updates list is already up-to-date” will appear if user system is updated.

4. Now select the 'Downloaded Updates' tab and you will notice the updates available would have been
downloaded with the respective title annotation. Double click on the latest supplement to view the text
contents.

Note: you do not need any eBooks unlocked to download the updates. This can be done just by using the software for free with no ebk files installed.

UNINSTALLATION PROCEDURE

Go to Start menu → Control Panel → Programs & Features (or Add/Remove programs).
Select eBook Reader and click [Remove].

Note:

• READ codes are sometimes referred to as ‘Box Codes’.


• Contact customerservices@gnsworldwide.com to obtain your READ Code, there could be more than one READ Code for a
single user.
• Certain publications from IMO are still issued as pdf version (not ebk files), these can be viewed using any pdf viewer.
• eBooks are special files (.ebk files) which can only be used by the eBook reader.
• Administrative rights are not required for the installation. However, if the installation fails because your machine is
completely locked-down, please contact your company’s IT department, or your IT administrator, for advice on this.
