CHAPTER 5 ARITHMETIC PROGRESSIONS

1) The given figure depicts a racing track whose left and right ends are semi-circular.
The difference between the two inner parallel line segments is 60m and they are
each 106 m long. If the track is 10m wide, find:
(i) The distance around the track along its inner edge,
(ii) The area of the track
2) If mth term of an A.P is 𝟏⁄𝒏 and the nth term is 𝟏⁄𝒎 then what is the sum of 𝒎𝒏 terms .
3) The sum of four numbers in AP is 50 and the greatest number four times the least.
Find the numbers.
4) If (p+1)th term of an A.P is twice the (q+1)th term, show that (3p + 1)th term is twice
the (p+q+1)th term.
5) In an AP pth, qth and rth terms are respectively a, b and c. Prove that p(b-c) + q(c-a ) + r(a-b)
=0
6) If a2,b2, c2 are in AP, then prove that 𝟏⁄𝒃 + 𝑐 , 𝟏⁄𝒄 + 𝒂,𝟏⁄𝒂 + 𝒃 are in AP.
