COURSE PRACTICAL WORK 4 TITLE DIGITAL SIGNAL ENCODING
WORK SCHEMES

CLO3: Handle systematically the related communication equipments to perform the assigned practical work.
CLO4: Display team work skill while doing any practical work

Objectives : At the end of the lab session, students should be able to:

1. Understand digital-to-digital encoding scheme

2. Explain the behavior of NRZ-L NRZ-I encoding
3. Explain the behavior of Manchester encoding

Overview:

Both analogue and digital information can be encoded as either analogue or digital signals. The actual
form of a signal depends on the encoding technique and is chosen to optimise the use of the tranmission
medium , such as to conserve bandwidth or to minimise errors. Digital data (i.e. binary) are transmitted by
encoding each data bit signal elements. In the simplest case, there is a one-to-one correspondence between bits
and signal elements. For this experiment, we will use MATLAB’s powerful programming features with its
many built-in mathematical functions.
