Put “did” with NOT after the subject and before the main verb (infinitive form)

• Julie did not walk to school.


• He did not eat his entire sandwich.
• They did not go on vacation.

Contraction – Didn’t

Put “did” before the subject and the verb, EXCEPT WITH THE VERB “BE”. Remember, the main verb
stays in the infinitive form.

• Did she walk to school yesterday?


• Did he eat his entire sandwich?

• Was he at the restaurant last night?
