Learner Analysis

Goal Statement
The learner will be able to plot points on a coordinate plane in all 4 quadrants

Description of learner interview

I gave my students a pre-assessment of plotting points in the first quadrant only to
activate prior knowledge of the coordinate plane. Some students were able to recall the
x and y axis and others were able to identify the ordered pairs for points on the graph.

Entry behaviors
A lot of students did not remember some of the terminology, so I had to make sure I
taught it.

Prior knowledge of topic area

Learners should have known how to plot points in the first quadrant.

Attitudes toward content

The learners were excited to not have to do any computations on a math topic.

Attitudes towards the delivery system

My students were excited to participate in the pre task because it had multiple entry
points

Academic motivation (ARCS)

The pre-task gave relevance because it linked to previous experience.

Education and ability levels

My students are all 6th grade math students; some have language barriers, and some
have learning barriers like dyslexia.

General learning preferences

My students prefer anything online and interactive.

Attitudes toward class, group, or organization:

Most students have the preconceived notion that they are not good at math, but they
enjoy being in my class.

1
Group characteristics
My group is a Title 1 group of students who have been tested on average of being 2 to 3
Years behind in math. My impression is those gaps can be filled as long as I make the
math relevant.

Data Sources
Scores from a test taken at the beginning of the school year.

Implications
I have to make sure I go over prerequisites as well as on level instruction.

Context Analysis
How compatible is the learning context for the instructional requirements? Include both
physical and social aspects.
Learning takes place in person in a classroom setting or in a blended learning environment.

How adaptable is the learning context for different instructional approaches?

The learning context is very adaptable and welcoming.

What constraints are present in the learning context that will affect the design and delivery of
the instruction?
We are still in the place of reteaching students how to function in a school environment after
the pandemic.

How relevant are the skills that are taught in the learning context to the goals of the workplace
or school system?
The skills taught are aligned with the TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills)

What implications do these answers in your context analysis have for the way you design your
instruction?
I believe this analysis will help me to help my students achieve the learning goal.
