Purpose & Objective
Purpose:
to inform policies and practices on effective management of
electronic waste.
Specific objectives:
1. Investigate the level of awareness among public on electronic
waste.
2. Identify challenges inhibiting public awareness about e-waste.
3. Recommend strategies for enhancing public awareness about e-
waste
Scope
Study area: Greater Kampala
Metropolitan area:
• Kampala Capital City,
• Mukono,
• Wakiso, and
• Mpigi.
Justification: The GKMA is the main centre
of economic activity within Uganda.
 10% of the country’s population,
 A third of the Gross Domestic
Product (GDP)
 46% of all formal employment in
the country.

Recommendations
1. There is a need for increase public awareness activities about e-waste in
general and most importantly the risks and dangers about e-waste.
 awareness should leverage on expanding use of social media & mobile based
applications
 Need to enhance e-waste awareness in schools – through e-waste activities like
e-waste clubs, challenges/competitions and curriculum

2. Need for systematic operationalization of e-waste management policies and


strategies
 Awareness
 Establishment of Collection centres
 E-waste handling facilities
3. Enhance awareness on sound e-waste management practices
 Apprenticeship & attachments
 Training of E-Waste Collectors & Handlers
Recommendations
