The Flower Child Seating System : Materials

Firstly, the body, legs and bottle-holder of the chairs would be made of polypropylene, a

thermoplastic polymer. As it is extremely low in density, it is lightweight, and can hence be

easily moved by the kindergarteners. It is rigid, strong and durable and hence useful for careless

children. It is water-repellant, which makes it easy to clean. It can be easily molded and mixed

with additives, to produce attractive colors. It is also reusable and eco-friendly (What is

The cushion would be made of flexible polyurethane foam, a polymer with compression

and resilience that allows for a cushioning effect. It is excellent for shock absorption, which

allows for durability when it comes to active, excited children. It is lightweight (What is

polyurethane foam?). The cushion would be covered by an external layer of polyurethane

laminate (PUL). It is waterproof and breathable, and can be rinsed with water and air-dried. It is

typically used for baby products as it is washable and sterilisable, which is important considering

the typical messes in a kindergarten. It comes in a wide array of colorful patterns (Fabric Design

The sleeve on the back of the chair would be made of low density polyethylene sheets

(LDPE), which are thin, transparent, flexible, and moisture-resistant (Comprehensive guide on

polyethylene (PE). Inside this, chart paper could be inserted to write numbers and names.
 All these materials are water-resistant, lightweight, and durable, which makes them ideal

for kindergarten furniture.
