His Insulation Megger Testing;

Insulation means Protection, Never to allow protected matters to pass through the walls.
Electric current should not find the way through, leaks out from its barrier called as Dielectric materials
naming “INSULATION”.
Confirm no electrically pressurised (voltage) at the conductive part to measure Insulation values, thereby
the isolation of that system is ensured, as LOCKOUT TAGOUT procedural followed.
With 500v megger, to avoid damaging range below ac 200v circuit stop checking / attempting insulation
tests for any that of equipment.
Insulation materials also in the family of deterioration, needs to be checked for its dielectric properties
periodically and accordingly to be reconditioned or renewed at the earliest.

Test Voltage vs. Equipment Rating

Commonly used DC tests Voltage for routine maintenance are as follows:
Equipment AC Rating DC Test Voltage
< 100 V 100 – 250 V
440 – 550 V 500 – 1000 V
2400 V 1000 – 2500 V
4160 V and above 1000 – 5000 V or higher
Test Voltages for proof testing of equipment are considerably higher than
those for routine

The IR tests must be carried out between Phase-Phase-Neutral-Earth with a minimum
acceptable value for each test of 0.5 M Ohms.
