Q19. 0.01 moles of linoleic acid reacts with 5.1 gm of iodine. Calculate the iodine number of
linoleic acid, C17H31COOH.

Q21.
Q22. The Lab Instructor asked you to weigh out 9.6 gm of sodium bicarbonate and make 1000
mL solution. You weighed out 9.6 gm of sodium carbonate instead of sodium bicarbonate by
mistake and made 1000 mL aqueous solution. The solution was used to titrate 250 mL sulfuric
acid solution previously made and it was found out that 1/4 th of the prepared carbonate
solution was only consumed to completely neutralize all of the sulfuric acid solution.
a. Calculate the molarity of sulfuric acid solution.
b. What would be the volume of the basic solution if you have made sodium bicarbonate
solution in the first place. Show all the neutralization equations.
Q23. For longer than 100 years the Kjeldahl method has been used for the determination of
nitrogen in a wide range of samples including foods and drinks, meat, feeds, cereals. A 17.6576
gm of a protein food containing 6 nitrogen atom in its molecular structure was treated with 50%
v/v 500 mL H2SO4 for 8 hrs. at reflux temperature and transferred after cooling in a distillation
flask. In the distillation chamber the mixture was boiled with 500 mL of 10 (M) NaOH solution.
The produced gas was trapped into a 250 mL 0.125 (M) H2SO4 solution as an excess. That excess
H2SO4 was neutralized with 0.1 (M) of 100 mL NaOH solution using suitable indicator.
Determine the percentage of protein in the food sample. (Mol. Wt. of protein is 1009 Da,
gm/mole).
