I started this Movie Talk by sharing THIS Google Slides warm up with my
students via Classroom. Feel free to make a copy of it and use it or change
it as needed. If you are not a 1:1 school, or would prefer to use paper, you
could copy the slips on the next page and give students the screen grabs
on the following two pages. Have them “match” the captions to the
images, then read their completed story out loud.
The next page has slips I gave to students to help them stay on track
during the Movie Talk. They simply listened and tallied whenever they
heard me say a certain word - and it helped me track how well I did hitting
the words I wanted to focus on with my students. You can have multiple
students tracking the same word, or you can not have students use these
at all - up to you!
The last two pages include screen grabs and comic shapes. I printed these
off and gave them to my students for after we completed the Movie Talk.
They rewrote the story in their own language, and then we took time to
retell stories to partners.
