Overview

This module will allow us to explore, promote programs to address disparities by ensuring
equitable access to health resources. Such disparities include living in an isolated rural area with limited
healthcare providers or being unable to afford health insurance. And take a look at community health
centers as the primary care provider in communities where health equity is limited by socioeconomic
factors.

Community and Environmental Health

Health -a state of complete physical, mental, social, and emotional well-being and not merely
the absence of disease or infirmity and the ability to lead a socially and economically productive life
(WHO, 2002)

Community - defined as a sociological group in a large place sharing one environment - includes
the individual and the family

Community health - as the art and science of maintaining, protecting and improving the health
of all the members of the community through organized and sustained community efforts

Environmental health - comprises those aspects of human health that are determined by
physical, chemical, biological, social, and psychosocial factors in the surrounding environment that
consists of prevention and control of diseases.

Characteristics of a Healthy Community

A clean and safe physical environment.


An environment that meets everyone’s basic needs.
An environment that promotes social harmony and actively involves everyone.
An understanding of local health and environment issues.
A community that participates in identifying local solutions to local problems.
A community whose members have access to varied experiences, means of interaction and

Activity #3 Discuss and present possible ways to help improve the present community and
environment problems and issues that your community is facing right now aside form the COVID 19

Main Task (Post-Test) (google meet)

Task #1. The class will be divided into 4-5 groups.

Each group has to divide their members into two teams (Team A and B)

Team A will discuss about their DREAM community for 5 minutes while team B will discuss their
existing community. After 5 minutes of discussion, the group will summarize everything that has been
discussed through a Venn diagram. Present at least 5 ideas in each aspect in an enumerated form.

Write it in a piece of Manila paper or any writing materials. Choose two (2) representatives from
your group to present your Venn diagram to the class which will happen next week or during our
synchronous class.

Task #2. Poster Making

Make a poster about the community and environment problem with emphasis on COVID 19
pandemic in your locality following the guide questions below.
a. Why do you believe it’s a problem?
b. How does this problem affect you and your family?
c. What can you do to lessen/reduce its effect?

Task #3. Picture Analysis
