Assignment 1—Marking rubrics

1 The essay is logically organized with 2-3 parallel main ideas, 35%
each of which is appropriately supported by information taken
from the given passages.

2 The essay is embedded with adequate and accurate in-text 35%

citations (APA style), with the author’s names and publication
years placed in different ways (at the beginning and/or the end
of the sentence).

3 Critical comments are included (e.g. how weak or strong an 15%

argument is, how similar or different the authors are, etc.).

4 Academic, formal language is used (technical terms, formal 15%

vocabulary, standard sentence structures, no abbreviations or
short forms, etc.)
