News Report Assignment :)

Your task is to create a newspaper article reporting on the events from one of the short stories
from class (which are listed below)

● The Tell Tale Heart

● Gore
● The Interlopers

The article needs to be typed, double-spaced, and include a picture. You may be creative, but
it’s expected that you will use facts from the original short story that show a detailed
understanding of the characters and main events.

Remember, the structure of a newspaper article is comprised of

the following...
➢ detailed headline
➢ several paragraphs (use a minimum of 4 for this task)
➢ short paragraphs (maximum of 3 sentences)
➢ quotations (minimum of 2)
➢ 5 W’s & H in the first paragraph (*Why and How may be
at the beginning of the the second paragraph)
➢ related picture with caption

You will be assessed on the following…

➔ structure/organization (i.e proper paragraph & news report format; all requirements
included)
➔ connection to short story (relevant supporting details that correspond to the story)
➔ communication (spelling, grammar, punctuation, & sentence structure; clarity, language
choice & fluency)

Also, remember, news reports are always objective – they are not about your view of an event.
Stick to a “just the facts” tone. Do not use “I” or informal writing. Start with the most important
information and work your way down to the less important facts. And, use past tense (as you
are writing about an event that has already happened.

Gore- News Report

On October 31st 2020 at 6:19 PM, two children named Lucas and Amy were left home alone in

their house, while the rest of their family was out. Lucas had taken away Amy’s novel, and shut

himself in the bathroom..although, the door had gotten stuck shut. The child Amy had tried to

open the door and rescue Lucas, so she could get her journal back.

Suddenly something had caught Amy’s eye, someone was knocking on the door. As she

opened the door, there were three men with their faces hooded. Right before she could’ve shut

the door, they were already inside the house. Amy then shouted for her brother Lucas, “Lucas, I

mean it! Let me in, please….Agh!” Her brother didn’t answer. The men wanted to attack mainly

the girl Amy. Later on, the girl Amy smelt something horrendous, she says it smelt almost like a

dead body. Amy was drowning, and sinking painfully from that smell.

The three men brought animals with them and they were trained to attack children. The three

men and the animals attacked Amy, choking her and puttings some goey stuff almost like wet

slime all over the house, they also brang more of that horrendous smell, which sweeps right into

Amy’s lungs. The smell, the attack..the men had caught her. Amy almost couldn’t breathe since

she was getting choked on.

At this point, Amy had called 911, the department person named Andrew said, “Do you wish

police, ambulance, or fire?” Amy replied, “Police! Please it’s an emergency.” She waited...and

waited.. “Please hang up and try your call again. If you need assistance dial your operator.

Please hang up now.” Amy was then turning into one of those three men, they were more

described to be some monsters. Right before that girl Amy’s eyes, Lucas opens the bathroom

door and Amy gasps and says, “Success! Triumph! Oh happiness, oh joy!” At this time the men

let go of Amy and freed her, then they had ran away, right out of the door.
This is the picture that describes when Amy was getting attacked by one of the men out of the

three and turning into one of them.
