Teachers make a Difference

Teacher play an important role in the life of every student. Thus, teachers make difference on
the life of a students who experience discrimination and bullying at school. Teachers are not
just a facilitator of learning but also a second parent who motivates, encourage and work with
students as partner of learning. As I’ve watched the video about teachers make difference
(2017) I realized that we teachers shouldn’t settle for just simply instilling learnings and plain
teaching, hence, we should always observe each of our students making sure that all of them
are provided with equal opportunities in learning. There is always a room for improvement
when it comes to our teaching, we should always keep our classroom environment safe and
open for everyone.

As what I have observe, the teacher manages the class through active participation. He was
able to build strong foundation of learning wherein he always asks the class for any
participation from them, which I admire since I’ve seen how some of his students actively
participate in the class. Furthermore, he observes that one of his student experiences bullying
wherein his classmates bully him for not knowing the answer. As for me who experience
bullying before, I must say that it will affect the development of one’s child, which will make
students to have low self-esteem, no confidence and knowing the teacher is not making an
action for the bullying really hurts. So, it is important that the teacher is making an action for
any bullying at school without blaming and shaming to the students, hence he/she should make
fair evaluation on every situations in school. That is why the teacher in the video thoroughly
analyzes the situation of his class and research for the best ways possible to make his class
unite and become one in the class where no one is left behind. He then observes the left-out
student, where he identifies what topic, the student is good at and integrate it in the classroom
wherein the student was able to show his knowledge on that specific topic, then he makes that
student become the task leader wherein it open an opportunity for the student to build new
friendship to his classmates.
So, my takeaway for that particular scenario is that every student has diverse talents and that
every student has the right to learn and to be heard giving them the opportunity to express
their answers, understanding and opinions. The different strategies that the teacher used in his
teaching demo are inquiry-based instruction where he let the students become the controller
of their own learnings and cooperative learning where he allows students to communicate with
each other in which the teacher encourages them to engage with their classmates by making
class activity that showcase each students mixed abilities. From the video I’ve watched, I
learned that teachers have a big impact on the upbringing of the children, they can influence
the perspectives and views of the children on the things surrounds to them. Also, the educators
can influence practically every element of their students' lives by building close relationships
with them and teaching them essential life skills that will help them succeed beyond terms on
the academic achievements and performance. Thus, early and frequent assessment of their
learning allows the teacher to address any issues or misconceptions as they develop, before
they become barriers to future learning.
