Globalization and its impact

Every year, kids eagerly anticipate unwrapping their Christmas presents, and
it's possible that even those who have discovered the truth about Santa Claus
don't think twice about where and how their gifts came from. Yet this year,
many people could be perplexed as to why the customary gift beside the
menorah or under the tree is missing.

If you typically wait until the last minute to buy gifts for the holidays, you might
want to start early. This holiday season, several well-liked toys are anticipated
to sell out quickly. Supply disruptions and higher pricing are being brought on
by low availability of raw materials, high labour expenses, and power outages.

The advantages of globalization—cheap goods and a surplus of goods—are

sometimes taken for granted. But everything from tariffs to pandemics might
cause a disturbance in the globalisation process. It can have implications that
are at best inconvenient, like a postponed holiday gift, and at worst, life-
threatening, like the need for medical supplies.

The coronavirus pandemic had a significant impact on the availability of

personal protective equipment in the United States, such as gloves and
facemasks. Many doctors and nurses were without this life-saving technology
since many hospitals and their ICUs were at or almost at capacity. How could
there be a lack of something so crucial? Facemasks are primarily imported
into the United States, although China is the world's leading exporter due to
the competitive prices and superior quality of its goods. The United States,
however, experienced a scarcity as a result of China's high domestic demand
and strained supply networks.

The pandemic has brought home how interrelated we are all in sharp
perspective. Repercussions from decisions and happenings in one part of the
world might be felt here at home. Hence, everyone should have access to
topics like globalisation. The Eurasia Group Foundation places this at the core
of its work, which is why it created the interactive curriculum "Globalization,
Robots, and You" to help youth understand the issue and provide them with
the knowledge they need to make wise decisions about their lives and the
future. Even people who have been out of high school for many years and
may not have learnt about this crucial subject may find this curriculum
interesting and enlightening. Even better, it can come in handy for telling a
young kid in your life why their holiday gift is being postponed this year.
